Yeah, there simply isn't enough demand for those filters.
If enough people were to ask it might change.? There's not a lot of money in making modern "stuff" for old "stuff" unless there's a LOT of old stuff out there that people are willing to spend money on.! -- 73/RickW4XA*Every post is created using Linux |

Re: TR-4C INRAD #1901 & #1902
An alternate way of getting a Drake transceiver with nice audio response is to use a TR-3.? Those old 4-pole filters have a more gradual slope in their passbands. Of course, you give up sidetone on CW with this option. I found the tube PTO to be stable, once the set warms up. Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Fruit flies like a banana.

Re: 4 line projects
Stan, be sure to see the article on Ron's site about getting the textured finish.? It's fairly easy to do but takes a little finesse.? You basically use satin black spray paint and drill a small hole in a nozzle to enlarge it and make it spatter.? I hold the can a couple of feet away and give it a light spray.? That's usually enough for the desired result. 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Fruit flies like a banana.

Hi Sean,
About 5 years or so ago, I acquired a TR-4C and did the very same thing with it replacing the original filters with the INRAD #1901 & #1902 filters! While I also get pretty good audio reports due to the slightly wider response,? The receive audio is much easier on the ears too!? (I even have the INRAD AM filter for the TR-6) I have been thinking about installing the Noble 2.8kHz filter in my R-4C to improve the received audio. Since they make filters for the R-4C & TR-7 (even custom bandwidth)? if enough people showed interest, they might be willing to make filters for the TR-4 series of radios too! 73/RickW4XA*Every post is created using Linux |
4 line projects
I've made some progress on the AC-4, MS-4, T-4X and R-4B projects. I
installed the Heathkit Shop upgrade kit in the AC-4.? New speaker in the MS-4. Today was a nice day in 4 land, so I sanded the cabinet with some 40 grit sandpaper using the orbital sander.? While not "perfect" I think it will be good enough after some sanding with finer grit sandpaper.? Will have to wait for warmer and less humid days to paint the cabinet.? Cabinets on the T-4X and R-4B are good enough I'm not going to mess with re-painting them. T-4X seems to be in good shape.? Only bands I've tried are 80 and 40 meters. It puts out 100 watts or so IF the ancient RS meter I currently have on the bench is accurate. Undecided on the R-4B.? It receives well. I can hear WWV on 15 Mhz with about 10 ft of wire laying on floor. Also receives FT8 well on 80, 40, 20 and 15 meters using the same piece of wire for an antenna. Unsure if there's a problem with the AVC like another member of the group has with his R-4B.? I have -1.35 volts on TP2. But, the S meter sensitivity pot is fully counter clockwise to get 40 DB on the meter when adjusted per the instructions in the manual. R89 and R41 are both within tolerance.? Still on the to do list is installing the Hayseed Hamfest caps in the R-4B.? That looks to be "fun"??? Not nearly as much "fun" as installing a plug-in relay in a T-4X though...? Been there and done that. Unfortunately this T-4X doesn't have a plug-in relay. 73 Stan KM4HQE |
Re: Dumb question of the day.
I found one of those at a hamfest. Unfortunately, the inside was completely trashed, as was the meter movement, and I tossed it. I did get a nice leather case out of the deal.

TR-4C INRAD #1901 & #1902
I have a TR-4Cw w/rit with the #1901 and #1902 filters, bringing the SSB bandwidth to 2.5KHz (vs the 2.1KHz stock).? Also have a TR-4Cw (w/o rit) with stock SSB filters. I get *much better transmit audio reports on the unit with the wider bandwidth. Sure wish I could find another pair of these filters so the two transceivers could sound equivalent. I know INRAD discontinued them some time ago. I know this is a *LONG SHOT*, but I don¡¯t suppose anyone has any they¡¯d be willing to sell? Worth a try ? 73 KK6BEB? |
Drake MN7 Tuner Chassis Paint.
The Drake MN7 I intend to sell along with some other peripherals is in bad need of a paint job. Not necessarily scratched up but just worn and faded.I do not get along with paint very well. And my dexterity is failing me. But looking for recommendations on paint and technique?? Or should I sell as is? But fully operational of course.I will also have a TR7 for sale. And:

Re: R-4C Frying Egg/Static Noise
I don't think its "normal" for any radio. Lets see what others with this set have to say. Sounds to me like something heat sensitive. Maybe even a bad solder joint. Since it starts when the set is cold perhaps freeze mist after warm up would find it. Turning a can of canned air upside down works pretty well as freeze mist. For a bad solder joint or cracked resistor poking the circuit with an insulated stick might find it. Not normal.
