Re: TR7 still misbehaving

that the "fixed" switch is causing the problem. I could verify that by
temporarily bridging it with a jumper.

Re: TR7 still misbehaving
Wasn't there a statement about "touching the FIXED" switch and the rig would start working? I'd douse the switch with De-oxiT D5 and work the switch before tearing apart the PTO.

Mic recommendation for TR-3
I understand that the Shure 444d is a good match to the Drakes.
They're becoming harder to find, prices are rising, and many have
been 'rode hard and put up wet'.
What other mics are worth a look,

Re: TR7 low band TX oscillation
I really don't have any idea of the production timeline. I have not seen enough samples to nail it down other than the older 1978 service manual version seems to be *mostly* up to date with a few

Where might be those changes
from early to late units? I have 9 of these and they have early to late
serial numbers. I fix them and "lend" them to new hams.

Re: TR7 low band TX oscillation
You should not have that much noise. It sounds a lot like a grounding issue somewhere as Steve mentioned. You could see if you can isolate it to a specific board by pulling boards one at a time and

Re: TR7 still misbehaving
I would look at the low pass filter. Silver mica caps have been known to fail strangely as they age. Check the solder on the inductor too.

TR7 still misbehaving
Sigh. Sometimes it just don't pay to get up in the morning. My TR7 loses lock because the PTO output goes away when you tap on the tuning
knob. I thought I had it fixed; I resoldered the

Of course, our lives went on past the life of RS.
I still encounter the occasional RS Lifetime tube. They have gold-plated pins and I have yet to find a dud from them.

Patrick, one thing to check is the earthing of the supply and of the oscilloscope. I have seen times where I have picked up ¡°phantom¡± signals because the scope earth connection was bad. One time,

Re: TR7 low band TX oscillation
Hi,
Sorry for the delay.
Thanks for the advices.
I've tested my TR7 with an external "laboratory" PSU and saw that the RF signals (LO, BFO, etc...) were all affected by a heavy noise.
My scope on

Sweeps were designed for pulse operation. Low average, very high peak power. That's why they can be run so hard with CW or unprocessed SSB.
