I used a rust oleum black textured, something like

The TR-4 should see around 180+ watts out on 40, and fresh tubes would give you over 150W on the higher bands. It is important that the PA is properly loaded to around 450 mA by adjusting the LOAD control after dipping the PLATE control. These values can change if the RF TUNE isn¡¯t set up right.

It¡¯s important for best tube life to not run them at full max and to avoid keying down for prolonged times. I like running my twins at no more than 120W out and my TR-4Cw RIT at 175W or less.

Bear in mind that the difference of 20W from 120W is a fraction of a dB. Ditto for 175 vs 200W.

Yeah.? He even had tube "kits" for the TR-4C and others.?? When you click on the actual links to "Buy Now", it takes you to eBay.

And for anyone looking for 12JB6's for a TR-3, he has 4 left? @ $34.95 each

If you can set all three within the adjustment ranges of the pots then you have a good set.? I paralleled the highest value resistor that I had, which was a 24M 1/2W and got the pot's range down to a max of 13M -- which is within the tolerance of the original part.

The three adjustments do interact somewhat.??

For setting the receiver gain in a 2-B, the manual states to zero the S-Meter. Is that supposed to be "1" on the dial? I know 0 != 1, but the meter doesn't have a zero on it. Is it possible that zero is the extreme left-hand side of the meter (just at the point where the needle hits the stop?

Re: 2-B Gain Setting

There's R-48 (RF GAIN) and R-24 (S METER ZERO).? What's the third component??

If you can set all three within the adjustment ranges of the pots then you have a good set.? One of the 2-B's that I'm in the process of completing had an RF GAIN pot that was at 28M (surprisingly, my Fluke 77 measured it!) but was otherwise working.? I paralleled the highest value resistor that I had, which was a 24M 1/2W and got the pot's range down to a max of 13M -- which is within the tolerance of the original part.
