Wouldn't you know it's one that's buried in wiring too....makes ID pretty difficult from a picture.

Remind me again....is it a T-4X or T-4XB you need this for?? I can pull either one (or a T-4XC) to see it up close and personal, and then go looking for a suitable wafer.? It is unlikely that I have the exact switch, unless the one in the T-4XC is identical....which is a good possibility. I have a relatively?complete T-4XC parts rig on the shelf.

Maybe you do not need 2 bushings?? Maybe they are backwards (swapped)?
And, that is the worst rusty looking switch I have seen, must need lubrication and cleaning.

The config in my photos is stock. The bushing on the shaft is there to isolate the mode knob from the bandwidth selector. Yes, this rig had some corrosion from humid storage. But that's merely cosmetic on the outside. All switch movement works perfectly. I got the complete 2-C, 2-NT, and 2-CQ station for a very low price. They are very early production units with serial numbers in the 40's. The 2-C had a broken crystal switch on the side, otherwise they merely needed recapping. One rectifier was bad but was easy to diagnose due to the smoke (hi). Works like a charm!

Dave:

Probably not the same.? I'm not at home so cannot start digging into the details.I will be home in a few days though, and can check out what parts I have/don't have and even if the switch isn't correct, there may be a wafer?that would do the job, seeing as yours sounds like it's toast.? Changing a wafer is NOT a job I'd like to do every day, but I have done it successfully on a TR-6 many moons ago and the rig is still working fine.

Can you get a good pic of the damaged wafer?? That would?help both Gary and I find you something that would "drop in"....and I use that term loosely!

If you think the R-4B audio is good, you should listen to an R-4A(early).
Unless.. your R-4B has the Sherwood product detector mod.
Notice how your S-meter moves on SSB signals.? If it moves up and down with sylables,
you need the Sherwood mod.

Re: TR7A and R7A Jumper Boards and Digital Jumper Extender Board

Nice write-up. You found two of the most common TR7 failures, both on the PS board. C2108 us the only capacitor on my "must replace" list for the TR7. It is not a matter of if it fails, but rather when it fails. It lives a pretty hard life. More important than the voltage rating is to use a high quality 105C temperature rated part.

I have a stash of 78L24. :) More recent thinking is that it may benefit from a reverse biased protection diode from output to input as shown on many 78xx data sheets.

I have a friend that's going to a ham swap this weekend he's also going to look for a junker T4XB so hopefully between everyone, I can get this thing fixed.

I wish someone would tell me why in the world ANY net for Vintage (or any other HF radio for that matter) would list a "Net" frequency on a 1/2kHz "channel"?

Why exclude the vintage Marine, commercial and military and CURRENT aviation type radios (Collins HFS-900S)? radios that only tune in 1kHz steps?

Asking for a friend.....

Re: Drake service CDs no longer available from K4OAH?

After reading this thread today and realizing I didn't have the docs for my 2-B, I wrote to Carol at the specified email and got a nice reply 10 minutes later ( ! ). If you go through the listings and prices and put the equipment model you want in the PayPal form, she'll know exactly what you want.

I'm using FFox 111.01. If you are having problems, they have some good security that you may have to turn off or reset. Or maybe you have a useful but annoying extension that's blocking something. Looking at you uBlock Origin.

Otherwise you could use the promiscuous Chrome, which I have banished from my Windows 11 desktop. But it probably works in almost any case (no matter what the Goog says about their security).
