Re: WANTED: 811A or 572B Tubes

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Dennis, I have seen very few failures of the RF Parts 572 tubes.? Yes, they are Chinese, but very good quality.? Almost all 572 failures I have seen no matter the manufacturer, has been from user abuse, not tube failure.? You might overcome your bias and try the RF Parts tubes.? Good warranty, good price (meaning, yes, they are expensive), and from what I have seen good durability when used properly.

WANTED: 811A or 572B Tubes

WANTED! 811-A or 572B tubes for my beloved "American Legacy Station..." a TR-7 driving a (ooops...another brand!) linear. Will consider either singles, or a full quad set. Can be used/tested good or NOS, but 811-A must be the "ribbed-plate" variant made in good ol' USA, like RCA, Amperex, GE, Cetron. Same goes for any 572s - HOWEVER...the Russian SVETLANA brand 572Bs are also quite good and acceptable.
Sorry, but I'm not interested in Chinese tubes of any sort, no matter who "hand selected" them like Taylor, etc. They are just not reliable enough for my hard-earned $$$$.
Send me a PM and alert me here if you have something of interest. Or, look me up on and my direct email is there.
Thanks very much!
Dennis, W1LJ

Re: Replacement of #12 Fuse Bulb

It is actually literally a light bulb. Not a new idea, the PTC characteristic of the filament is taken advantage of for cheap protection. They are available as others have written, but I imagine the actual type isn't too critical.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I bought a BHI noise away, but it appears to have been reworked, and the power-connection broke ( diode cracked). I'm hesitant to try that brand again.

When it did work (intermittently) the noise reduction was acceptable, but the output volume weak,

The KNB2 noise blanker very effectively removes "popcorn static" in
both narrow and wide pulse width modes. Also, both levels of low or high threshold removed the
static pulses.? Signal levels of the pulses are S9 plus in the Off
mode. Zero On.

I believe the source of the pulses are High Voltage power lines
that are located less than one mile away.? These are the lines
with the 100 ft. towers.

Thanks to Burdick and Swartz for designing a superior product.

Ken N4SO

David,?? You have old technology, and this one for the Elecraft K2 is very effective for High Voltage power lines.? I do not know
the source or meaning of your "pulse noise".? You want narrow and wide pulse width modes in a noise blanker.? Mine is completely effective.

Not only played with it, we made it!? We would heat cinnabar in a distilling flask and get liquid mercury.? We would put it in little vials with cork stoppers and take it to school and play with it.? No one I knew every got sick, or became addlepated.? ('cept may be me! )? J

?

We¡¯d make enough of it, and the labs in town would buy it from us.? Many summers, we could distill and sell around 20 pounds of the stuff.

?

Now, if a mercury filled thermometer breaks in a classroom, the school is closed for a week while they decom the school!? SHEESH!

?

I was going to show my sons how to make liquid mercury from cinnabar and they told someone at school.? I got a call from child services threatening me.

?

Oh well!? Long time ago¡.sons are in their 40¡¯s now, and have children of their own¡teaching them how to get mercury from rock, among many other things!? (Western Nevada deserts are loaded with cinnabar.? Don¡¯t even have to dig for it.? Easy to see, being red and lays all around, if one knows where to go.)

Any interest in a TR4CW/RIT station?

Tim

I've finally run out of shelf space in the shack and am considering selling my TR4CW/RIT station to make room for something new. I am keeping my B-Line though.? The transceiver is in what I would describe as good condition physically and electrically it has a couple issues, I can explain if anyone is interested. I have the AC4 (upgraded with heathkit shop board), MS-4, RV4C, and original manual for the radio. I would really like to sell it locally for pick up or meet an hour or so from Fairborn, Ohio. Shipping would be quite expensive and hard to pack to prevent damage.?
I'll be taking it out of line in the next few days and will be able to answer more questions and take pictures.
If there is any interest please contact me off list for more information at

Thanks

Re: Where to buy solder?

I definitely recommend taking a look at 'goKimco.com'.? They are an older (started in 1978) industrial distributor of soldering and soldering supplies located in Mentor, Ohio. They have all the best brands (e.g. Kester) and excellent prices (their prices on Kester solder are 1/2 (or more) of the other prices I found on the web). Their web shopping store works very well, shipping cost is quite reasonable, service is excellent, etc, etc.? I ordered a pound roll of Kester thin solder and two Kester flux pens and had them 3 days later.? My recommendation: give them a look.
