Re: Where to buy solder?

I absolutely will not use no lead solder on any work I do. 80% of the dead
Ameritron amplifiers are caused by no lead solder. I'll spend an hour or
two reflowing solder with leaded solder and the amplifiers come back to
life.

I'm just the opposite, I have 63/37 but keep lead free for when absolutely
necessary. Like many others I got a supply when a local manufacturer changed
over. Look around, you will find some. For 99.999% of my work no-lead solder
is banned from my bench.

I'd imagine that you can still buy quality (non-Chinese, Non-ROHS
compliant) solder from suppliers on Ebay or via the normal Newark/Mouser
etc.
I'm nearing the end of the supply I got when Digital changed their
approved manual solder specification and scrapped out hundreds of rolls of
Kester solder in our location alone . I snagged what I thought would be a
lifetime supply? before it went in the dumpster but I lived longer than
expected!

Almost off-topic.? It has been many years since I bought any solder, but
am now approaching the need for another roll.? Where do people buy good
quality 63/37 tin/lead solder these days?? (Not interested in lead-free or
Chinese stuff.)

My preferred size is about 0.040 inch (0.10 mm), as I find the 0.031 inch
size a little difficult to work with.? A one pound roll would be nice.? (At
my age that would be more than enough.? HI)
Thanks for any suggestions.
