Re: L-4B Blower Wheels

I picked up the ten blower wheels today and they look great.? ?All have been spoken for.? A special thanks to Mark, WB0IQK who knew a ham that was able to machine the hubs to fit the motor.

I've attached a picture of a machined wheel to this posting.? These are the exact form and fit of the Drake OEM wheels.? ?I did some research on this blower wheel and found that Torrington orignally supplied these to GE for refrigerators in the early-mid sixties.? ?Guess it is no conicidence that the motor is also made by GE!

Next month I will be making another batch of 10-20 of these replacement blower wheels.? The cost will be in the 35-40 dollar range, shipped.? At this cost, I am not making any money - rather doing this to keep these classic amplifiers running.??

I will be sending out emails to those that contacted me last month for one.

Re: Ebay Global Shipping

Well, it might be because I had a wonderful experience ?of having to post something twice because the bloody form wasn’t to Customs Canada’s high standards.?

When they were done on paper, they were fine. Nobody cared because it was $10 worth of “electronics parts”.?

I hate bureaucrats and will avoid them as much as possible. The stupid burns.?

What *is* it with Americans and customs forms?!? The rest of the
world just deals with them. But you yanks go running in fear from
them like a monster just jumped out at you from under the bed!

Seriously. Those of us north of the 49th just gaze in wonder and

Evan,

Re: Ebay Global Shipping

I don't think there is a big problem with completing the forms.

From my experience, I will stand in line for a half hour just to GET the forms

at my local post office. Then, I'll have to get back in line AGAIN after I fill out the forms.

The choice is this, or just sell it within the US...which won't be a problem....and skip ALL the waiting

in line, and just drop the package at a UPS store.

So, it's just a matter of two choices!

The L4 has a supply similar to the. L4B and L7. ? All I remember off the top of my head is that the 50 watt bleeders are of a different value in the L4.

Re: Ebay Global Shipping

I fix these radios for fun and for hobby money.? I certainly don't get wealthy on it.

I start with the specialist usergroups (Drake-radio, in the case of Drake equipment).? I price lower than I would price on eBay because - hey! -- I don't have to pay fees.? The biggest bugaboo is the 1099K that I[ll be getting from PP and EB.? With PP, I insist on friends & family (F&F) at this stage, as this is a closed group and we're all friends here.? Those who feel guilty can send a cheque.? Takes longer.? Shipping for anything larger than a couple of pounds is extra.

Foreign postage isn't the problem.? Customs forms are the problem and I had a bad experience this past year where the item I gave away bounced back to me from Canada.??

Once I progress past the group, to QRZ and the like, and finally, to eBay, when I get to eBay, I sell domestically, only.? I had heard about problems with their international shipping and would just prefer to not go through it.

I never drive the head of the pin flush with the hood. A slight space is left to make it easier to extract the pin with pliers or? diagonal cutters used as a pry bar. I don't always have the proper size punch at hand but pliers and diag cutters are always within reach.?

Anything I buy from Japan lands on my doorstep in Vancouver within
10 days or so of it being shipped:

Alinco DR-235 11 days Free
Kenwood TS-600 11 days 76.67
Kenwood TS-700 7 days Free
Kenwood TS-600 1(!) days Free (FedEx Air)

I also buy lots of odd & ends (mostly coax jumpers) from Japan that

Ebay really needs to get their sh*t together on shipping from the US.

This is where it's good to (re-) mention PirateShip, where you can save big bucks (50%?) over counter rates for the big shippers. USPS discounts are pretty hefty too.? No idea if they offer international shipping but probably worth checking.

No association with them other than a satisfied customer.

Know exactly what you're talking about.? Made a mistake shipping sheet of Lee Filter? for my tr7s and r7s from California . Had it shipped Ebay global by mistake. I always ship to Washington state. What would normally take 3 days max to Washington state took 6 weeks to be shipped from California to the east coast then it went into a worm hole and traveled around space then came out in Toronto then back to the worm hole. After 6 weeks they said it must be lost. Yes Ebay refunded my money right away and I received crushed tube of ruined product about 2 weeks later.
Never ship Ebay global is my rule from then on.

Ebay Global Shipping would be a laugh riot if it wasn't so pathetic.

I regularly receive items from Asia and eastern Europe is half the
time it takes something to travel here from Washington state (a 30
minute drive).? And at 1/3 the shipping cost.

Anything shipped via Ebay Global Shipping from the US spends a week
trandling to Carol Stream IL, where it then spends another week
orbiting Chicago before finally being spit out of the vortex and
landing in Toronto.? It then spends another week trundling back
across the country before it finally lands on my doorstep.? Nothing
arrives here in less than three weeks.? And the costs are obscene.

What finally drove me over the edge was paying US$17 shipping for
what turned out to be a single 11x17 inch sheet of paper.

Now I avoid US sellers like the plague.? Lots of gear is available
from Japan, gets here in < 10 days, and often shipping is free.
With Ebay's usurious shipping system, why would I ever want to buy
from a US seller again?
