Contacting K4OAH For Cd's
开云体育2 Months ago, I sent 25 dollars, via PayPal, ?to K4OAH’s sales site for a set of ‘C’ cd’s. via download. I have heard nothing? from whomever administers to sales. ? Can anyone here direct me to a good contact number or site to get this rectified? ? Thanks.. ? Joe – W7RKN |
Re: TR7 Connectors
Notice: I have decided to turn over my supply of TR7 connectors, cable and crimp tool to Steve WA4F. Except for one local Colorado ham who may come by my house this week, Steve will supply these items at little or no charge. There would likely be a modest fee to cover shipping or USPS mailing cost.

I will now start a major downsizing of Drake R-4C "parts radios". Local pickup at this time only. Shipping costs for an R-4C has skyrocketed. If a ham would like to pickup these "parts radios" up and part them out, this would be great. Rob Sherwood, NC0B -----Original Message-----

Had to purchase 1000 of each for interfacing my 7-SP speech processor to the TR-7. (Product long out of production.) There is the chassis connector (called the lunar lander in some Drake documentation!), the coax tip female connector, and the coax crimp-on connector. I have the crimp-on tool, but I don't know how well a generic crimp tool would work. Thanks, Johni was going to do the calculations but it’s not easy when in the passenger seat of a moving car. :-) I figure that it took 61 years for the part to drift that far, so any corrections should outlast me.? 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow. If you can shunt your pot (fixed end to fixed end) with a made-up series combination of fixed resistors that yields about 35 megohms, you'lll be able to bring your 26 meg pot down to 15 megs. 73 de John, KD2BD |
Re: Remove case from MN 2000
Bob: Glad you got it out.? The MN-2000 and MN-4 can be a bear to remove from the cabinet.? Same with the C-4 console, especially if someone has replaced the inner cover screws with round head screws, or screws with damaged?heads. Per WB4HFN's serial number database the MN-2000 was made from at least 1968 to 1978 with over 10,000 units produced.? They are quite common to find at fleamarkets here in Canada, usually for about $200-$250. In Version 2, Drake made a slight change to the wattmeter calibration circuit.? In version?1, it looks like you had to calibrate the 200w scale first, then the 2000w scale, in that order.? In version 2, the calibrations of the two scales should be independent.? A simple wiring change would correct version 1 if you wanted to do that.??I have not checked?for other changes between the two versions. 73 Peter VE7PS On Sun, May 7, 2023 at 9:10?PM K6OXN Bob <bobk6oxn@...> wrote: And yes it is built like a sherman tank |

Re: Remove case from MN 2000
Well after a lot of trials and errors, I found that whomever placed it back in the cover put it on with the 4 outside screws for the case already installed. This is what was making it very difficult to remove the cover. After some prying and cussing, I got the case off out the back, by placing a short coax patch cable on the ALT and the Xmtr? so239's and pulling on the unit with a grip on the case. It looks completely clean inside and not an arc or anything obvious.
Serial Number is 955 don't know how many were made, but compared to the schematic I have it appears to be one of the first series. 73? Bob K6OXN |
Re: DRAKE TECHNICAL NET ( May 7, 2023 )
Ah, that's where everyone was.? I was hoping for a critical audio report on a "new to me," TR4-CW-RIT that followed me home.? I also have no VOX on SSB and no delay on CW regardless of how the VOX control is adjusted.? Other than that, it's in "CCA Excellent" condition. With band condx as they were, it would have been a tough net.? I did not even hear slight splatter from 7241.0 but was waiting on 7238.0.? As I don't yet know all of the people on our net, I figured the folks which were on 7238.0 at 3:30 EDST we early and waiting for the net to start. According to Dr. Tamitha Skov, "The Space Weather Lady," we were hit with solar storms and that did the bands in: Chuck Rippel, K8HU -- -- Chuck Rippel, K8HU |
Re: white line on 7 line knobs
Steve's technique is the same I used to whiteline literally hundreds of R390A knobs.? With Drake knobs, a trip to the hardware store for some "Blue Magic" polishing compound and a 30 seconds on a buffing wheel will make the knob look factory new. Take a pick or small screwdriver and remove as much of the existing white filler as practical.? Then use a small artist's paintbrush to apply the water-based paint white paint in the knob channel.? Finally, pass the knob / whiteline gently across a flat paper towel left to right in relation to the knob white line to remove excess paint and paint on the plastic surface of the knob.? Use this technique on both the top and front of the knob. If there is a little paint still on the knob, a new paper towel with a spritz of Windex on it will allow you to clean up the knob and have it looking factory new. They key here is using water based products.? White ceiling paint looks really great. I never put any other coating on the white line; it's just too easy to repeat the process above if the need ever arises.? I used this technique on all my Collins gear 30 years ago and "C Line" 15 years ago and it still looks great! Chuck Rippel K8HU -- -- Chuck Rippel, K8HU |
Re: DRAKE TECHNICAL NET ( May 7, 2023 )
Jerry,
It depends on propagation. ?We've had checkins (not today) from Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, Delaware, etc. but propagation holds all the cards. ?The time does not change, it is always 4 PM EST pm on Sundays.
If you can't hear the net directly, ?there are some remote receiver sites on the east coast that can be used to listen in.

Re: Remove case from MN 2000
开云体育Correction… not ALL 4-line boxes have ONE rolled edge on the front of the cabinet as rcvrs an txs have rolled edges front and back. ?The MN-2000, MN-4, CC-1, C-4, W-4, and WV-4 all have rolled edges on the front only. 2-B AGC voltage — possibly resolved
I checked into the Sunday net today and Jeff, WA8SAJ, suggested that I check?the RF GAIN pot. This is a 15M (!) pot and is not very easy to find, these days.? I measured the pot across the entire part, since there’s one end that isn’t connected to anything.? The pot measured 26M ohms.? My parts receiver’s pot measures 20M, as does my good 2-B. These parts obviously appear to age by getting more and more resistive.? I should be able to get this 2-B to meet spec with the pot at 20M. With these resistances so very high, one can’t really set the resistance to 15M ohms directly but we can set it indirectly by measuring the total resistance and subtracting 15M from it, then setting the resistance from the wiper to the open end to the value of the difference. One can then set up the sensitivity with the pot at 15M, which is what the value should be with the RF GAIN fully CW.? It not the best way but it’s a workaround for this nearly Unobtanium part as it ages.? Thanks again, Jeff! 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Re: Remove case from MN 2000
开云体育BobDo not remove the front panel screws! Put the feet back on their screws. Not going to be easy now but you should try and get the feet started on the thread, then pull on it to keep the screw from rotating and finger tighten the feet as much as you can. Remove any other screws in the bottom of the cabinet. Six as I recall??? Push the front panel towards the ?rear and remove the tuner box as one unit though this is typically quite tight. If someone has not used the original screws on the inner cover this can be REALLY tough! You will hear some scraping. If the top, bottom, or sides have been compressed inwards, this will also complicate removal of the inner box. Try to straighten it as best you can. Good luck! 73 Peter VE7PS?
