I figure that it took 61 years for the part to drift that far, so any corrections should outlast me.?

If you can shunt your pot (fixed end to fixed end) with a made-up series combination of fixed resistors that yields about 35 megohms, you'lll be able to bring your 26 meg pot down to 15 megs.
