The FT-990 and the TR-4C are not the same radio. They operate differently. The position of the Sideband Selector switch on the TR-4C is irrelevant except when you need carrier (as in CW, AM or Tune).

I was 7.2Mhz (40 meters) in LSB with my Yaesu FT-990. I turn on the Drake exactly on the same frequency hear the same exact person and my SSB selector switch is turned to the RIGHT (X). Right (X)
