Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
Ken, I'm not sure how the 2B mutes or what contacts the Dow Key relay has, but you might be interested in how I have run break-in CW with numerous vintage receivers since the fifties. I use a SPDT

Re: T-4XB Front Panel
You can buy a set of fiber washers on Amazon. All sizes and they come in handy. I put a touch of cement down to hold those washers in place during assembly. I have the little red indicator light pins

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
I used a 2B as a novice, along with a Eico 720. My Dow key relay had external contacts that handled muting the 2B Easy peasy! 73 Ronnie

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
Ken, Like others have said, just ground the 2B Antenna input to chassis ground with a DPDT or set of relay contacts during transmit and the 2B will also serve as a great CW sidetone monitor while your

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
Ken, The Dow-Key relay will mute the 2B receiver and disconnect the "ANT" from the receiver to the transmitter in transmit. You need to ensure the Dow-Key relay actually switches the ANT SO-239

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
From a historical perspective, the issue of muting the 2 B existed when it was made back in the 50's. So, whatever was used then (generally the relay method ) was effective and caused no damage to the

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
Your 2B will be fine if you just mute the RX by grounding it during transmit with a pole of a DPDT relay. I use my 2B with a Viking Navigator in just this way for many years. John K5MO

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
These old tube front ends are pretty hardy. I used to run a Kenwood R599 with a MOSFET front end amp that was constantly getting vaporized by second ham at same QTH. But the 2B's 6BZ6 front end can

Re: Using a 2B in a vintage station.
My first rig was a Heathkit HX-10 Marauder with a Drake 2-B and a Dow Key relay. I'm pretty sure that the 2-B got muted from the TX rcvr-mute out of the accessory jack. Just a relay that opens the
