Of course I know that it is a triode. No shorts were measured. But this tube makes noises that a good tube does not make. I would not trust it as far as I could throw the amp it was in.

Remember this is a triode. There is roughly a 1/2 inch separation between
the inside face of the plate cylinder and the grid. There is a tiny
distance between the grid and the filament and that is where most of the
shorts develope.
So if the grid/ filament is shorted (you can measure this with an
ohmmeter) the tube is likely not salvageable. These are the ones you make
lamps out of.
Bumping the plate structure does little movement to the grid. You would
think that with a +- $300 each you would get a better deal. Too bad as
when they are good and in service barring abuse they last a good while.

Not even going to try with the one I found. While I don't see anything
rolling around inside the envelope, I do definitely hear mechanical noises
from inside the plate structure when the tube is rotated or gently shaken.
I would not trust it even if I could get the plate straight.

The Eimac 3-500Z is one of the most fragile tubes in existence in terms
of the plate support structure. However, you CAN repair a bent 3-500Z by
banging it against a firm, but not hard surface just hard enough to swing
the plate back into the desired neutral centered position. I have done this
dozens of times with great results. Best to do the tapping below the
centerline of the plate relative to the base.

Sorry Jim¡.The courts have ruled otherwise. You are buying a specific

there is a loss. If the item shipped was valued at, say, $354.95 and you
bought insurance for $354.95, then *that* is what you would receive in a
