Continuing the Variac thread is a slightly different direction ...
has anyone measured the AC current draw of an AC-4 (wired for 120VAC)
with the attached T4-any running key down? I've never plugged mine
into a Killowatt to measure it, and at the moment the C-line is
sitting on the shelf :-(.
The PSU input is fused at 5A, so I've been wondering about the
practicality of running the AC-4s through a 5A Variac on a full
time basis. Would the current draw be pushing it too hard?
It would be nice if that was sustainable, as those 5A rated Variacs
sell for reasonable prices on fleaBay, and they are readily available.
Or maybe I should just give in and use a 10A model instead? They
are a fair bit more expensive, and harder to find. The upside is
I'd be able to run the receiver on it as well.
I'm really just interested in practical feedback from anyone who
has done similar and has tales to tell.
