I used paint from a can poured into a roller tray. To Gary¡¯s point below, I used Rustoleum because that was what was available at my local hardware store. Agree there was nothing special about it. Any satin black oil based enamel suitable for metal would do. You want to ensure you have good coverage before rolling off the final finish. I had uneven lighting when I did mine and ended up with a couple small dry areas that were textured but you could see the previous lightly sanded coat through the texture.
