Paul,
We are close in serial number. My TR-4Cw-RIT is 45336. It came to me pristine but not working. Eventually I found a broken filament line wire in the harness that had several tubes not illuminated at all and some extra bright. As you would expect, the open line fouled up the planned series and parallel arrangement with the filament voltage to all the tubes. Likely the radio was pristine because it was never used.?
I was lucky in that after correction it worked fine and has yet to need any tubes replaced. In the case here, the radio is quite stable, and it performs well in that respect in comparison to my Drake R-4C and T-4XC. I never use these radios without at least a 30-minute warm-up. The radio must have worked at the factory - because it has never needed alignment.
My serial number is beyond the list on WB4HFN's website. While I did get the original manual with the radio, I did not get the build ticket showing the date. My estimate is around March of 1978.
