?Our club has a few (4 ) new members under the age of 30 ish . They really don¡¯t have the spare $$$ to be buying new radios . The club has a Swan 500 that¡¯s been sitting for years . ?The new members has expressed interest in repairing this one! The goal is to have it back running before field day. Thinking of working on it one or two nights a week . ?The club has a couple of radios we loan out ?but this will be the first tube type!
? Think it might of helped them operating my Drake R4c . Wished I still had a R4B ?so they could here the audio! ?
? Don¡¯t give up hope ! There¡¯s not going to be many but maybe a few that will keep them going.?

I've been reading this series of emails and wonder if a community of hams interested in the "old" tube-type gear will keep these units going.? ?I was first licensed in 1957 and really like my restored $40 HQ-129-X for CW and AM listening.? ?It's better than my Yaesu 840 xcvr.? ?Am thinking about a long-wave converter for the Hammarlund...haven't seen a design for one yet.

Yep I went nuts in the late 80¡¯s and bought everything I could get my hands on hi hi.. about 10 years ago I was setting looking at the stacks of gear on both sides of the work shop and figured if I retired and spend 8 hrs a day restoring I would not live long enough to get all the gear done. Had a Ham in N.C. come over one day and I filled his big SUV full. His son rode back with a radio under his feet and one in his lap.. hihi.. I think we got 35 or 40 units stacked into that suv. Just about bottomed it out ?been selling off stuff a few items a year. Now I am down to a few dozen radios and 50 bins of parts hihi.. going to sell my 4.5 ft rack soon with an SX62A run 2 an R388/URR ?SX 101A ?R390A and a WWV Comparator. Been my listening post for a long time. The Hallicrafters were bought new the rest I picked up years ago. It is sad that the new guys have no ideal what this gear can do. Or how to keep it running. If it is not plug and play they are lost.

Yep us old farts ! I two years ago had over 30 working radios and 20 parts radios ! I¡¯m down to 3 radios !? Had to help a sk wife cleanup ! He had 200 items or more ! Don¡¯t want my kids to go through that .? It woke me up!? I still have a room 18x18 full but most of it will be easy to get someone to take it . We actually have a few younger hams in our club now so I¡¯d hope they would take it.?

Yes our days are numbered just when we get old we realize they¡¯re getting a few!

John, on the shipping question, Dave covers that somewhat in the preamble to the auction, in the first couple of pages. He has arrangements with a local shipping place (UPS??) and uses them. I would drop him a line to find out all the particulars. I am local so I just drive over!? Not that I buy much since I am already well stocked with the projects!? But, bottom line, check on the auction site and then contact Mr. Schulman with any further questions.?
