Birth dates in England

As far as birthdays are concerned, you will see in my article that even in the early part of the 19th century they were not even recorded. Nor were the maiden names of mothers.
This all serves to complicate research in England. Some priests did record the birth date on registers, later.
This is why most British researchers are so sceptical of the claims of descent from nobility and royalty seen from some non UK researchers.?

There were some exceptions. In Suffolk, in the Hoxne deanery (I don't know about the other deaneries), the maiden names of mothers were being recorded in some parishes from around the 1770s.? So were the names of the "reputed fathers" of some illegitimate children. Somewhere - I think in one of the London parishes - the priest recorded the child's age on the baptismal register, usually in days. But of course for the most part what you say is true, and I certainly tend to distrust family trees which feature nobility and royalty.

If you have ancestors from York? for 1777- 1812 (Dade Registers)? or the Durham Diocese for 1798 - 1813 (Barrington Registers) then you do get a lot of information and a rare treat
?
They contain a wealth of FH information - mother's maiden name, mother's parents, where born, which child in the order (eg 2nd son)
?
The marriage registers are the same.
?
Such a pity when they had to conform to the C of E standard!
?
When the LDA put the Durham registers online I got back 5 generations in 1 day
