? ? If you can get hold of a DVD with Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands called 'Life on a Victorian Farm' (televised some years back) you will find out about (amongst other things) how birthdays were celebrated then :)
In fact they have done several series' going back to the 17th century and are pretty entertaining. I have nothing to do with their making, I just like them.
