Suggestions for people who have undergone autosomal DNA testing

Bret Busby

Hello.

After having posted my previous message relating to the table published at

and, considering some aspects of the table (and, acting on my considerations), I have the following suggestions, for people who have undergone autosomal DNA testing (I realise that some people may have undergone only Y-DNA testing, or mtDNA testing - initially, years ago, I underwent only Y-DNA testing).

From the table, I have derived the following.

AncestryDNA do not allow for uploading data from other companies, to their database. They have, from the table, 21million members.

23and me do not allow for uploading data from other companies, to their database. They have, from the table, 12.2million members.

MyHeritageDNA do allow for uploading "from 23andMe, FTDNA's Family Finder, Ancestry.com, Living DNA and WeGene" to their database. The uploading, and, finding matches, are free, and the uploading is relatively simple (I did it, a couple of hours ago, for my FTDNA atDNA data), and they provide easy to follow instructions, for both downloading the FTDNA data, and, for uploading it to their database. Wait time for the consequences, is given as 5-7 days (so, I allow about two weeks). MyHeritageDNA, from the table, have 5.6million members.

FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) allow for uploading data, for "23andMe Version 3, 4, and 5 files (c. November 2010 to current), MyHeritage and Ancestry.com files only". The uploading, and finding matches, are free. FTDNA, from the table, has 1.77million members.

LivingDNA allow for uploading of data "from 23andMe, FTDNA's Family Finder, Ancestry.com, and MyHeritage DNA". LivingDNA, from the table, has 300,000 members.

So, my suggestions are these.

AncestryDNA members should upload their data to MyHeritageDNA and to FamilyTreeDNA, and, possibly, LivingDNA, to expand the pool of test subjects, from which to find possible matches.

23andme members should upload their data to MyHeritageDNA, and, where their tests comply, to FamilyTreeDNA, and, possibly, LivingDNA, to expand the pool of test subjects, from which to find possible matches.

FamilyTreeDNA members should upload our data to MyHeritageDNA, and, possibly, LivingDNA, to expand the pool of test subjects, from which to find possible matches.

LivingDNA members should upload their data to MyHeritageDNA (the only company shown in the table, to allow for uploading data from LivingDNA), to expand the pool of test subjects, from which to find possible matches.

Something for people who can do this uploading, but, who have not already done this uploading, to consider...

I hope that anyone who reads this, finds it interesting, and, does the uploading that can be done, if not already done.

The more pools in which a person casts a line, the more chance of catching something...
