no transmit - when giving commands
I have a dinah connected to a Yeasu FT8800
I am using a kenwood TH-F6 ht. The 10? minute announcement works.? When I manually run the command files, or run the "fun" command from the asterisk CLI? the transmission occurs. But when I use DTMF on the HT, even though the tone are recognized, I see the characters in the asterisk cli, the dinah does not transmit. What settings should I try? |
selecting 9600 baud
Staring at the schematic I'm not sure what the intention of JP1 is?
I would like to use the discriminator output of the radio, pin 4 on mDin6 connector, but the only way I think that is possible is to make a cable that routes pin 4 on the radio side to pin 5 on the DINAH side. Could someone who has enabled 9600 baud on DINAH explain how they did it? I've been using 9600 baud packet with another sound card and config the radio to use 9600 baud data for both 1200 & 9600 data rates. Doing this you can easily switch between 1200/9600 baud packet by just changing the data rate within direwolf config file. I received my DINAH kit yesterday and put it together with no problems. The instructions are VERY good. Had it running 1200 baud packet straight way using a Raspberry Pi. Very satisfying. Thanks, /Basil n7nix |

Problem with FT817ND and Dinah
I am testing the DINAH? interface with an FT817ND using the 6 pin mini-din?connections. I can receive?data from the DINAH interface using the NZ7HO sound card software on a PC.? The PC is Windows 7 and auto-installed?the USB sound card drivers. However, I can not transmit.? The sound card output is pinned to zero disabling?transmission. Disconnecting the cable frees? up the sound card so it looks like the Squelch signal from the FT817ND is being interpreted as a COS asserted signal by DINAH. I have used menu item 45 to set the sql/rf-gain to sql.? I am using 2 meters.? I have squelch adjusted so that the output is silenced unless there is a readable?digital signal?on the channel Any experience?here? Thanks! AB1PH Don Rolph |
Re: DINAH for APRS
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNo changes to Dinah were needed. I looked at the schematic to make sure the pinout was the same that Direwolf required. Then I changed the Config file for Direwolf to see Dinah as a CM108 media. Works like a charm. I just wish I could figure out how to get my beacon to post as a green Diamond instead of a black one.?Baby steps. LoL? ~Mike On Oct 22, 2020, at 16:46, Lynn DeHart <kb3fn@...> wrote:

Re: DINAH for APRS
Mike-
It would seem then a VHF Shari would be able to do the same thing. Granted they are low power, but could be placed up a tower and stubby duck replaced with a J-pole on the cheep. Or deployed during search and rescue. .Reason I say this- we have a dead spot in our area- Just happens to be where the Ham Radio store is. So obviously, lots of APRS traffic there and no reporting. The Ham Store has Internet too.? I have coupled a SHARI with a cellphone hot spot... I've done that on UHF.. gets me on my favorite ALLSTAR NODE while traveling or out of town. Reason I mention the SHARI as the Nice RF SA818 module is a $12- item single channel .radio.. Gets RF in the air on the cheep. The other item I may mention SHARI or DINAH. I have unplugged both while the RPI is live and no RPI consequences by doing that, swapping them or moving between 2 RPI's would be the same result. I was integrating a DINAH to a Repeater, so I was swapping my RPI between the two.. Great going experimenting !! Larry W8LM |
DINAH for APRS
Hello group.
I just wanted to share my findings with this group. I recently set up an APRS iGate using a Dinah and a Raspberry Pi running Direwolf. I had reached out to N8AR asking him if he thought it could be done and he wasn't sure. The answer is definitively yes. You just have to let the software know you are using a CM108 interface. I don't want to hijack this Allstar group any further so if you have any further questions send me a note.? Cheers! -Mike KJ7OWD |
Re: DINAH on a cell phone
You can NOT port forward on a Cell phone using it as a hot spot. It's called Double NAT'ing. Even though you may be able to port forward depending on the cellphone or "Air card"? THe "public" IP address you're issued at the Cell phone tower, is really not public. The cell phone tower can issue hundreds of IP addresses, but when it leaves the cellphone tower it's on 1-4 private IP addresses to your carrier's data center.
I live in Kansas, when I check the Lumber store stock, it asks me which lumber store I want to check in Chicago. It thinks I"m in Chicago as that's where my carrier's private network dumps me to the real world. There is no way any cellphone carrier is going to let you port forward through their private network. I did hear -rumored VERIZON will allow port forwarding for a one time $500 fee. Mainly for things like Police mobile command posts and such. Cellphone data allows outgoing connections, not incoming.. perhaps set up a radio-less node at your house, . so you go mobile to house over cellphone data then back out again over your home ISP. de W8LM. |
Re: DINAH on a cell phone
You only need to forward 4569 if you want to accept incoming connections. Otherwise All* does not need ports forwarded.
Taking a look at the log files might be helpful. How is a connection attempt on the cell phone different from your home network? One possibility is that your cell provider is blocking ports that All* is trying to use. When you use your cell phone you're sharing an IP address with other cell phone users and that places limits on what can be done and what's available. You could try moving the UDP port to something higher - like 30,000 and see if that works. If you have a VPN, try using that to make your connection. One last thought is that the hosts table provided by Allstarlink.org might be out of date. Or all three nodes could be offline. Try something that doesn't change often and is likely to be online, such as Winlink. (2560 or something like that) 73, Chris, K9EQ |
DINAH on a cell phone
I have used the Dinah with my 880h on my home internet router.? I am trying to use my cell phone to tether the RPI for mobile use.? The cell phone shows that the RPI and my laptop are tethered to the cell phone service.? I call up supermon on the browser and I can log in fine.? I have tried to link to 3 separate nodes without success.? Everytime the bottom row on briefly turns red and then it disconnects.? Any thoughts on using the Dinah on a cell phone?? Port forwarding of 4569 for UDP packets is mentioned in the install doc, but I do not see how to do that on a cell phone.??

Re: DTMF and Yaesu FT70
Hi Cal,
I had this same problem using my TH-F6A and my FT-70.? I created a document (Setting the RX Level in HamVOIP Allstar.pdf)? which is in the Files section of this group that discusses this and presents a way to disable DTMF muting so that you can see the DTMF levels using the "simpleusb-tune-menu" application accessed from the HamVOIP Admin menu (Item 12).? Careful tweaking of the RX level worked for me. Steve - N8AR |
DTMF and Yaesu FT70
This is not a DINAH issue.? My DINAH is connected to my Icom 880h.? TXing from my Knwd F6A, DTMF tones are correctly decoded when I monitor "Run Asterisk CLI Client"? per page 11? V. Operation step 6.? ? BUT, from my Yaesu FT-70 all DTMF tones are correctly decoded except A.? I tried varying lengths of presses and nothing works for the DTMF A key.? What do I need to adjust on the FT-70 to fix this?? Thanks in advance.??

Re: Proof of Concept - Dinah & ALLSTAR on a brand new Yaesu DR2X fusion repeater.
W?VFW? VFW post 3115 Amateur Radio Club trustees have order it best serves our Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Military, their Families and the General public to keep the output of both of our new repeaters Analog only. That way, anyone can use them and hear them even with the oldest or least expensive rig. We have active hams with little invested in radio equipment because of financial limitations.
We are the Wichita Link into the Statewide SKYWARN system and some license amateurs only appear during weather events. So perhaps the DINAH is all we need. ? ? |
Re: Proof of Concept - Dinah & ALLSTAR on a brand new Yaesu DR2X fusion repeater.
I recommend you go to??and look at the MABEL DR-1X interface board.? There is a lot of documentation on his website about using it with the DR-XX.? We designed the board to work with a couple boards from Masters Communication (Kevin) to control our DR-1X repeater using Allstar.? I was too busy designing other stuff and Wade (KC0LMT) was interested in selling and supporting it so that is why it is at his web site.? I have attached a photo of the prototype controller we use on our repeater (N8SL).? The MABEL program, which runs on the same Pi as Allstar controls switching the repeater between analog FM and C4FM digital.
I want to point out that the DR-1X requires a high level audio signal which the RA-35 provides.? Also note that by using an external directional coupler , you don't need to cut into any wires in the DR-XX Steve - N8AR |
Proof of Concept - Dinah & ALLSTAR on a brand new Yaesu DR2X fusion repeater.
Hi guys,
Not much activity on [email protected].. I may be shaking up the message count shortly. PRELUDE- Our ham club group took delivery of 2 Yaesu DR2X? Fusion repeaters. They were purchased to replace 2 VERTEX VRX-7000 50 watt repeaters. Vertex is no longer Yaesu and in fact, was purchased by MOTOROLA,? My opinion is Motorola purchased Vertex simply to eliminate competition. This spring, our Vertex repeater required service, an intermittent. We could not find any support, sources for factory parts and so on. Repair was completed at a personal cost that had it not been volunteered would of cost more than a new repeater. ? I brought one of the new Yaesu DR2X's home to see what I can do with it. I had many questions as the DR2X repeater manual fails to answer many questions short, of 100% Yaesu methodology of X-wires or special $200 internet boards. Yaesu wants to sell Yaesu. HOME WITH THE NEW TOY- Because of a club build, I have built 5-6 SHARI's, a DINAH, and other dongles using WB2EDV's printed circuit board. Plus the VRX7000 repeaters are configured with DMK -URI-x interfaces. I had put together a DINAH to use with my Yaesu FT-817's and also have a Kenwood TM-V7 which uses the DINAH 6 pin cable. So I looked at the DINAH 6 pin cable and the DR2X rear connectors - 15 pin DB 3 row connector and a 10 pin miniature DIN..I had neither but ordered both. and they arrived just before the weekend. Out of the box came the new DR2X on my workshop bench. I programmed it, added dummy loads to both TX outputs and played with it Analog and Fusion using no receive antennas and listening to leakage from the Dummies. I have 2 fusiion radio's, one a HT and 2 analog HT's (actually 11-15 analog HTS). So I put the repeater on a cart, dummy loads, cables and wheeled it from the workshop to the ham shack. Time to try my experiment. I shut down my SHARI ALLSTAR node sitting on top of my 4 drawer file cabinet; removed the SHARI. Installed the DINAH to my RPI3 and rebooted. Listening to the output of the DR2X on a HT.. NOTHING.. I SSHed into my RPI and clicked to Run Simpleusb-tune-menu application. There I selected "V" and saw my COS was ACTIVE. I knew it was not, so I clicked on menu selection "J" Change COSFROM (currently USBINVERT) to just plane USB.. Immediately the DR2X repeater spat out my IP address and voice ID.. I played with it for a while. I found that the Digital audio is a bit higher level at the DINAH than the analog, as I have the repeater set for AMD - Auto mode selection in receive but Fixed Analog FM output. That way anyone rich or poor can use the repeater.? I then tested it Saturday evenings with a check in to the Blind Hams net and got good audio reports. I may attempt a AGC circuit on the receiver output to the Dinah mic input. To equalize audio levels between digital and analog. CONCLUSIONS Proof of concept works I only used 1 cable to interface it to the DINAH and to convert from my SHARI to DINA-DR2X repeater operation took only one software switch change. I will be playing with this further, perhaps figuring out a AGC circuit for receive audio. On the air tests is one thing, but ALLSTAR across the internet will require finding an assistant and making adjustments- receiving audio quality reports from 2 locations. So it a work in progress but single mode Fusion or Analog it works great!? It's only when the repeater is switching between the 2 that analog audio out the back changes. I may call Tech Support tomorrow to see if there are audio level adjustments internal to the DR2X. Regards, Larry W8LM |
