Re: Dinah to Kenwood "K" connector information anyone please ?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIs there a version that has TRRS on one end suitable for Yaesu HT¡¯s, specifically the FT-70? Now that would sound good. I still contend the FT-70 has the best TX and RX audio of any currently-available HT on the ham market. |
Re: Dinah to Kenwood "K" connector information anyone please ?
DINAH takes advantage of the fact that all the required signals (COS, PTT, audio) are available at "standardized" levels at the 6 pin miniDIN packet/data connector of some ham radios. A radio interface for Allstar using the CM108B/CM119B USB audio IC requires a COS signal from the radio.? ?This is not directly available at the external speaker/microphone connector of an HT.? Thus, in order to use DINAH for Allstar, you will have to open the radio and find a suitable point to connect to or create this COS signal with external circuitry.? One such project which does this for some Baofeng HT's can be found at:
?
?
As you noted in your question, you will surely have to adjust the audio level by adjusting the R1/R2 and R3/R4 voltage dividers.
?
If you are using the DINAH for packet, APRS, etc then the COS signal is not required and an interface cable as suggested by Don may work fine |
Re: Dinah to Kenwood "K" connector information anyone please ?
I believe this is the cable you need: -? It looks like they are out of stock at the moment bu since?each cable is pretty much made to order, you might contact them. The basic cable is siple?a cable connecting the sound lines to the radio. the PTT is also carried over the sound lines as well and last I remembered required a resistor in the cable.? But since they provide this as turnkey?... On Tue, Feb 1, 2022 at 11:41 PM Rob MW0CQU <mw0cqu@...> wrote:

Dinah to Kenwood "K" connector information anyone please ?
Hi All, ? Ordered 2 DINAH interfaces but for the life of me I cannot find a pinout / circuit example? to go from the DINAH mini DIN to a Kenwood handheld "K" connector (2.5mm speaker + 3.5mm mic) Anyone able to share that info please ? cant believe with baofengs etc out there that this is the first time anyones wanted to do this ? Many thanks in advance! ? 73 de CQU |
Re: Audio Level Adjustments
Are you using a Raspberry PI? If so use alsamixer typically against card 1 as alsamixer -c 1 and set the input and output volume levels. What has others done to reduce received audio from DINAH? V/r -Michael KB4JHU |
Re: Audio Level Adjustments
You should not need any additional attenuation in DINAH as the FT-817 levels appear to be the standard values used by the radio manufacturers for the 6 pin miniDIN packet connector.
First, make sure you are using 1200 baud, not 9600 baud.? The 1200 baud level is around 40 mV and should result in an RX level setting which can be set by Allstar.? Do not use RXboost! The TX deviation of the FT-817 (i.e. the audio you hear on your HT) can be adjusted using Menu#39 (PKT MIC) of the FT-817.? Start with TXA set to 500 and then adjust PKT MIC. |
Re: FT 1500 with DINAH
Frans is so right.. I was the unlucky operator. And through the help of Frans, we fixed that simple but seemingly perplexing issue. It works on both radios flawlessly.? And as he said, the Dinah just works.. I have absolutely no intention of messing with it. Just place it in a corner and leave it alone...

Hi All
Thank you for the info.I will cetainly keep those in mind also
However, the operator had a kenwood tmv71a so I had him connect that up instead and was getting the same issue
So I remoted into his sstem and after a bit of checking we spotted he had typo'd his callsign when he did setup
So all worked but fo rthe fact that he was not proprly registered on allstar so no audio was sent out.
Resolved the callsign in the relevant spots in the files and voila all is working with the kenwood radio.?
This afternoon after work we will be testing it back with the Ft1500 and I am hoping it works?
I like the DINAH it just works, I have a couple here running and not an issue at all.
A good and safe day to all

Possible cause of no audio: On the DINAH mini-DIN connector, pin 6 is for Carrier Operated Squelch (COS), which goes to pin 48 (VOLDN) on the CM119 chip. The Allstar software driver uses COS, but most other digital modes drivers do not, and each time pin
6 goes low the volume goes down a bit more, until it is none. So sever the JP3 jumper on the DINAH board if not running Allstar. See the schematic on page 14 of the construction manual??

Re: FT 1500 with DINAH
Make sure you have CTCSS setup correctly on your FT1500 to match your HT settings.
Select "V" in simpleusb-tune-menu (Item 12 of the Admin menu) to verify you have COS set correctly.? Make sure CTCSSFROM Mode is "no" ( "L"? in simpleusb-tune-menu) Select "2" in simpleusb-tune-menu to check/adjust RX voice level. |

Thank you very much for the link to your .conf file.

I¡¯ve actually had a little progress since yesterday in that Direwolf is
keying PTT via the DINAH, now have to work out why is not passing the traffic to
linbpq.

All the best!

If you are using a DINAH for digital modes, make sure COS is
disabled.? This is typically established by cutting JP3 in the DINAH
board.
?
Good luck!

If I can help,, yell! ?

DINAH and Direwolf
I would like to use my DINAH with Direwolf V1.6 which tell me that it includes optional support for hamlib cm108-ptt.
?
I¡¯ve read the docs, I get the impression that if I added ¡°PTT CM108¡± to direwolf.conf I would be good to go....
?
Sadly that did not work, I obviously need to do more, so I¡¯m throwing it out there seeking guidance from the experts on how to get the DINAH to transmit under Direwolf.

Re: Direwolf on Raspberry PI 3 using DINAH sound card interface
I have an old RPI2 with a COASTAL works PI-TNC. I understand they are not made any mode, but I also saw someone else id making that PI hat.
I may get it out and get it running again. The RPI2 would seem awful slow as, since I got a RPI400 my RPI3B+ seems slow now. I also have a DINAH I was going to use in a repeater.... My to do list is getting longer every day.. Life happens. Larry W8LM |
Re: Direwolf on Raspberry PI 3 using DINAH sound card interface
Hi Don,
Would you mind sharing your DINAH Direwolf configuration with me? I have Direwolf V1.16 which I understand supports the DINAH using PTT CM108 - I have added this to the .conf file but have had no success. I suspect that I need to do more than just add that line, but have no idea what more is needed. All assistance most welcome! 73 Steve VK2ARS |
