Made a bit of a mistake here:
I meant to say SQL when I said CSQ.
The default on the TM-V71A/E for COS is BUSY, which is
essentially just carrier. It can be changed on this radio to SQL,
which is more appropriate, but not on the older Kenwood radios, at
least without mods.

Greetings:
The older Kenwoods have COS logic hard-wired to carrier. With
radios like the TM-V71 and TM-G710, you can change this in a
menu to CSQ. On the TM-V71A/E, this is done in menu 5-2-0.
I have the same problem with an older TM-D700A. There is
probably a hardware mod for this, but I don't know.

I decided to turn on CTCSS on my Allstar/Kenwood TM-V7. I
thought I would be able to open up the squelch but it apparently
turns on COS when the squelch is open but no station is
transmitting?
Has anyone else run into this or is it just me? For now, I had
to adjust the squelch so COS is not triggered.
