Question: How old is the oldest client you've had recently?

We’ve had multiple clients in training and coaching in their upper 60’s and 70’s, all of whom can point to better blood tests, better stamina,
better energy and they are all literally getting younger every single day!"

Everything you wanted to know about Mizmor 119 of Tehillim – free Zoom lecture this Tuesday!

This lecture is part of a series every Tuesday until April 13; see the details of this week’s shiur below.

?

The Narrative of Sefer Tehillim - with Rabbi Dr.?Beni?Gesundheit

Torah in Motion and 929 present a 30-part series, every Tuesday at 7:15pm Israel time. The classes are FREE and run for one hour.

?

Registration details, source sheets and recordings of previous classes can be found here:?

?

This week’s shiur:

Mizmor 119: Structure, Meaning and Context

176 Verses – Identifying the Narrative of the Longest Mizmor in Tehillim

?

This Mizmor praises the Torah in a seemingly monotonous, repetitive 8-fold alphabetic order. Is this merely a long collection of reiterative verse? Why is it placed between the Egyptian Hallel and the collection of Shir Hamaalot?

?

The contextual interpretation (illustrated throughout the course) will be applied to identify the narrative and messages of this long mizmor (comprising?22 units of 8 verses). Additionally, the perfect positioning of Mizmor 119 between the Egyptian Hallel (113-118) and the Shirei Hamaalot (120-135) will be addressed, as will its correlation with the beginning and end of the entire book of Tehillim.

A downward trend for high cholesterol

Question: How can I lower my cholesterol without medication?

?

Alan answers:

"Hard work and diligence can do what no medication can ever do!

?

My client Elisa just lowered her cholesterol by 114 points in 7 weeks. Yes, 114 points, with NO MEDICATION. When Elisa came to The Wellness Clinic she was obese and her cholesterol was dangerously high. I gave her an eating program which changed her from a standard Western diet to a more plant-heavy, anti-inflammatory program without processed foods. Elisa also began daily walks of 35-40 minutes. In follow up visits we added some muscle building exercises as well.

In less than two months Elise has lost 8 kilo and her cholesterol numbers are now outstanding! Her risk of a coronary event has drastically decreased!”

Inspire Others
?
In essence, it is every Jew’s desire to fulfill Hashem’s will. It is ignorance of halachah, lack of awareness of the matter’s severity, and a feeling of helplessness as to how to change oneself in this area, which are the root causes of widespread disregard for Shmiras haloshon. One who will attempt to guide others in this matter will surely find his words well received, and will bring great merit to his fellow Jews.
?
Zohar Chadash states (Lech Lecha 25a): “Rav Avahu said: ‘Take note of the great reward that awaits one who inspires another Jew to repent. From where is this derived? From the words, “And Malkitzedek, King of Shaleim, brought out bread and wine” ‘ (Bereishis?14:18). R’ Chiya Rabbah taught: ‘When the soul of a righteous person who inspired others to repent departs this world, the angel Michael, who brings the souls of the righteous before their Creator, goes forth to greet him, as it is written: And Malkitzedek — this refers to Michael, head of the keepers of the Gates of Tzedek (Righteousness); King of Shaleim — this refers to the Jerusalem of Heaven; brought out bread and wine — he goes forth to welcome the righteous man, saying: Peace unto you!’ ”
?
Elsewhere, Zohar Chadash states (ibid. 62a): “A Heavenly call goes forth each day: ‘Meritorious are those who toil in Torah, who draw others close to Torah, and who overlook the hurt caused them.’ ”
Do you know someone who needs a refuah shleima? A shidduch? Or perhaps a meaningful yahrtzeit is approaching? The Way of Our Ancestors

?
The Midrash states that four sources of merit figured prominently in the redemption from Egypt: The Jews did not adopt Egyptian names, did not speak in the way of the Egyptians, were not guilty of immorality and did not speak loshon hora (Vayikra Rabbah 32:5).
?
Tanna D’Vei Eliyahu Rabbah (ch. 23) relates:
?
When the Jews were in Egypt, they assembled and sat down together, for they were united as one. They established a covenant to do kindness with one another; to safeguard in their hearts the covenant of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov; to serve their Father in Heaven alone; not to forsake the language of their father Yaakov’s house; and not to learn the language of the Egyptians, so as not to follow the ways of idol worshipers.
?
The Egyptians would ask them: “Why do you not serve our gods, for if you did, your workload would be lightened?’’ The Jews responded: “Did our forefathers forsake our Father in Heaven, that we should now do the same?’’
?
When the Jews circumcised their sons, the Egyptians suggested, “Perhaps if you do not observe this law, your difficult labor will be lightened.’’ The Jews responded: “Did our forefathers forget the covenant into which they entered with our Father in Heaven, that we should now do the same?’’
?
When Jews would marry and celebrate the Seven Days of Feasting that follow, the Egyptians asked, “Why do you celebrate? Soon you will be forced to perform your slave labor!’’ The Jews responded, “We shall celebrate — you can do with us as you please. Those who are destined to die, shall die. Those who are destined to live, shall live.’’
?
Let us follow in the ways of our ancestors, to do kindness with one another and faithfully uphold their covenant to serve no one but Hashem. Let us pay no heed to enticements and arguments to the contrary, just as the Jews paid no heed to the Egyptians’ words.
?
May we merit the fulfillment of the prophecy, “As in the days when you departed Egypt, will I show him wonders’’ (Michah?7:15) — speedily and in our time.

Negative Commandments
?
In his introduction to Sefer Chofetz Chaim, the Chofetz Chaim enumerates 17 negative commandments which one may violate when speaking or listening to loshon hora. Below are the negative commandments most commonly transgressed:
?
1) You shall not be a gossipmonger among your people (Vayikra?19:16).
?
2) Do not accept a false report (Shemos 23:1), which prohibits both speaking and accepting loshon hora (Pesachim 118a).
?
3) Beware of a tzaraas affliction, to be very careful and to act (Devarim 24:8), which Sifre explains as a reference to loshon hora for which tzaraas is a punishment.
?
4) And you shall not place a stumbling block before the blind (Vayikra?19:14), by causing others to sin.
?
5) Take care, lest you forget Hashem, your God (Devarim?8:11) through arrogance (Sotah 5a) — a prime cause of loshon hora.
?
6) You shall not desecrate My holy Name (Vayikra?22:32).
?
7) You shall not hate your brother in your heart (Vayikra?19:17).
?
8) You shall not take revenge...
?
9) and you shall not bear a grudge (Vayikra?19:18).
?
10) That he not be like Korach and his assembly (Bamidbar 17:5), who caused strife among the Jewish people.
?
11) Each of you shall not aggrieve his fellow (Vayikra 25:17) through hurtful words.
?
12 (You shall reprove your fellow) and do not bear a sin because of him (Vayikra?19:17) by embarrassing him in the course of your reproof.
?
(The five remaining negative commandments are found in Shemos?22:21; 23:2; Vayikra?19:14; Bamidbar 35:33; and Devarim?19:15.)

The Peddler’s Potion
?
It happened that a certain peddler was making his way through the towns near the city of Tzippori, calling out as he went, “Who wishes to purchase a life-giving potion?’’ People crowded around him [to obtain what he was offering].
?
R’ Yannai was sitting on his balcony studying Torah. Upon hearing the peddler’s announcement, R’ Yannai called down, “Come up here and sell me your potion.’’ The peddler replied, “Neither you nor those like you need it.’’ However, R’ Yannai persisted until the peddler agreed to come up. The peddler opened the Book of Tehillim (Psalms) and read, “Which man desires life?... Guard your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn from evil and do good...’’ (Tehillim 34:13- 14). R’ Yannai said, “Shlomo too declared, ‘One who guards his mouth and tongue, guards his soul from tribulations‘ (Mishlei?21:23).
?
R’ Yannai reflected, “All my life I read this verse, but never perceived its full meaning until this peddler came along”1(Vayikra Rabbah 16:2).
?
While on a visit to Eretz Yisrael in 1936, Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter, the Rebbe of Ger (and author of Imrei Emes), wrote the following in a letter to his followers in Poland:
?
I also seek the following from you: As the tribulations befalling our nation have multiplied both within and without, and our Sages, with their trustworthy insight, have taught that the causes of this exile are loshon hora and sinas chinam (baseless hatred), I suggest that all of you study Sefer Chofetz Chaim and Sefer Shmiras HaLoshon ...Heaven and earth bear witness that upon completing the above-mentioned works I felt within myself a positive effect. Even those who are of wholesome character will feel a positive effect from studying these works.
?
Though the peddler told R’ Yannai that “Neither you, nor those like you, are in need of this potion,’’ R’ Yannai troubled the man to come up to him, to demonstrate that everyone is in need of it.
?
?
  1. R’ Yannai had never understood why David taught this lesson in the form of a question and answer. After meeting the peddler, R’ Yannai understood that because people so easily transgress the laws of proper speech, it is therefore necessary to draw their attention to this matter by making a public announcement such as the peddler did (Maharzu).
?
?
Congratulations and Mazel Tov on finishing the entire cycle of A Lesson A Day.
?

Can lifestyle medicine help reverse my health issues?

Question: What’s an example of an impressive lifestyle medicine success?

?

Alan answers:

A few months ago I spoke about our successes with difficult medical cases. Here’s a new one to add to the list:

Mr. F came to The Wellness Clinic to stabilize cirrhosis of the liver. After 3 months of guided lifestyle changes in both eating and activity/exercise, Mr. F went for new blood work. What a difference - 37 point drop in cholesterol, a 10 point drop in blood sugar!

But what we really notice is a much better liver function. There is a substantial drop in a key liver enzyme, indicating that his liver condition is not only stable but is indeed REVERSING! The power of lifestyle medicine is quite amazing!
