Linking issue maybe?
Our local area repeaters just got updated and had backups made of the Hard-drives. We believe that we have lost functionality of being able to link our VHF module to the 1.2 module on the same repeater, i.e. KF5VBE A to KF5VBE C. We think we remember being able to do this but as we did not do it very often, if at all we are not sure. All of our other linking functionality is working just fine, and this may be just a mass case of old timers disease or it never did it in the first place and we were not aware of that. I am personally of the mind that it did work and we have just lost that capability, but then again I ain't as young as I used to be! Any help greatly appreciated! AL

Do 23cm DD-mode repeaters link to hamnet?
Located in Germany nearby to a 23cm DD-mode repeater, I only wonder if I'd end up in Hamnet if I'd buy a (not-so-cheap-but-pretty-limited-in-function) Icom ID-1 transceiver? Are there *any* somewhat "free" implementations of the DD-mode protocol applicable? I guess the AMBE-code isn't necessary, but maybe some other (propreitary) protocol? Thanks, Chris

[d-star] Fwd: New Kenwood D-STAR Tri-Band HT Announced at Atlanta area Hamfest This Weekend 3
If this is true it would be a huge deal- we would then have a de facto digital standard. The ARRL jumped on the CODEC2 bandwagon years ago and has been basically fighting DSTAR as proprietary and single vendor and now we have several competing standards. One needs to "win" -warts and all. The nightmare scenario is if Kenwood were to come out with yet another standard. The tiny pot of money for our industry, such as it is, goes to the user radio market not the repeater market. A guess is the market share of premium priced FM radios have gone way down vs the low end knock offs. Yaesu has done a truly remarkable job of marketing System Fusion but the engineering has just not caught up. Erik, NY9D www.14567.org
