Pointers to ID-1 Radio Bracket?

As I relate in this blog post -?, I now own three used ID-1s. Two of the three did not come with brackets for mounting the radio. Can anyone provide a pointer to the P/N or name of the bracket for the ID-1 radio? I'm hoping that same bracket is used by another Icom radio that can be still be purchased as an accessory.

Also, can anyone tell me what the ideal machine screws are for attaching the bracket to the ID-1 radio?

I hope to get the ID-1s working in data mode attached to Raspberry Pis. I have no current "practical" use for them, I just thought it would be cool to get them on the air on the otherwise very quiet 1240-1300 MHz band here in Whatcom County, Washington.

Thanks,

Steve, a bracket from a Yaesu 7900 should work just fine, my other Icom radios are about 1/4" wider, screws are 4 mm x 75mm x .7 thread

I use a ICOM MB28H on my ID-1

Hi Steve,

None of my ID-1 radios came with a mobile bracket for the main unit.? Perhaps you could
measure the bracket you do have and let us know.

Doing some research, the ID-1 user manual lists an optional mobile mounting bracket
as MB-17A.?? The Icom UK site:
shows it is for several radios including the IC-2100H and IC-2200H.? Unfortunately, it's a quick
release bracket, and probably no longer available.?? There is one for sale on QTH asking $35.00

Looking at Universal Radio site information for Discontinued models of Icom,
it shows that MB-17A for the IC-2100H and IC-2200H, but also shows a bracket MB-28H.
Width and Height of the two models is the same of 140 X 40 mm, but the depth is different.?
The IC-2300H is also 140 X 40 mm, but different depth.? ID-800H is also 140 X 40 mm.

The Icom ID-1 User manual shows the dimensions of 141 X 40 mm.??
So the MB-28H or a mobile mounting bracket from the listed mobile radios might work,
but is narrower by 1 mm it would seem.? Might be worth a try or fabricate one?
DX Engineering shows dimensions of the MB-28H bracket when looking at the pictures.
https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/ico-mb-28h
Of course, not in stock.

HRO shows in stock in Sacramento, CA for $29.95

It says "Fits radio Width of 141mm (5.5") screw spacing 50mm (2.0")".

So, maybe the Icom MB-28H would work for you.
Also, the IC-2100H service manual lists part numbers for
the mounting bracket and various screws.

MP1? 8010016380? 1542 Mobil bracket (B)
MP3? 8820000530? Flange bolt M4x8? qty 4
MP4? 8810000470? Screw PH M5x12 (+/-)? qty 4
MP5? 8810000950? Screw PH A0 M5x16? qty 4
MP7? 8850000150? Flat washer M5 NI BS? qty 4
MP8? 8830000120? Nut M5? qty 4

Perhaps a call to Icom America Parts to see if brackets are available?

Thanks all for the input. Just a quick note here, with more research
on your inputs about the bracket tomorrow.

After spending 15 minutes at the local Ace Hardware standing in front
of the small Metric Machine Screws drawers with the ID-1 radio in my
hand, I was forced to conclude that the bracket screw threads ARE "M4"
after all. M5 was obviously too large, and M3 pushed right through
without engaging the threads.

My second conclusion was that the M4 threads on the radio body were
simply very shallow, as in 2 or 3 threads at most. I couldn't believe
it either - I tried different M4 screws, in all four of the radio's
screw threads. In each case, I could get a few threads in, cleanly,
but no more than that. Even with just those few threads, the screw
seats solidly, and I'll be able to install the first radio onto the
one bracket I currently have (with the help of a washer). I wouldn't
do this if I was going to use it mobile, but I'm mounting the radio to
the bracket, and the bracket to base, along with the control head for
fixed use in my shack. I'll include a photo when I complete it in the
next few days, now that the screw size is "sorted out".

For a radio that was that expensive, 20 years ago, I'm surprised at
this lack of attention to detail on the part of Icom.

Thanks,

I got my metric screws at Lowes, yes M4, the reason they only go in a couple of threads is because you have the wrong thread pitch, correct is .7 Thread Per mm

The screws I have screw into the radio body about 12 mm

Good luck?

The ID1 is a great radio

All:

Thanks for all the help! Now sorted. You can read all about it at
.

Bottom line:
One of my three ID-1 radios has a bad (or modified by previous owner)
bolt thread. An M4 0.7 thread machine screw will only engage 2-3
threads at most on that radio.

The other two ID-1 radios have M4 0.7 threads.

The Icom MB28H bracket is the same one I had with one of the three
radios. Fortunately I already HAD a couple of these brackets, which
are now allocated for the other two ID-1s.

Thanks for all the help:
* Al, thanks for the tip about Lowes - you're right - great selection
of small metric machine screws!
* Glenn - Thanks for the tip about the MB28H bracket - that was a
great tip because I have some (see the article).
* Tony - Thanks also for the tip about the MB28H bracket, and the
detailed info on the hardware - none of my documentation had that
detail.

Again, thanks all!

Hey, you weren't supposed to deplete the HRO stock of MB28H brackets!!!? ;)

Glad you found what you needed and I like the blog postings about the ID-1.

The Kenwood TM-V71 mobile mount bracket works perfectly for my ID-1 and it was cheaper than the ICOM brackets. Part number?J29-0628-33.
