Re: Icom Discontinues ID-1 in UK

I assume ETCC is a coordination body. One of the issues we have in the states is that Icom calling them Data Repeaters doesn't actually make them repeaters (defined as simultaneous transmit and receive). Technically, they're access points and only require a single frequency.

Most repeater coordination bodies will only coordinate actual repeaters using frequency pairs. The FCC rules specifically allow for only coordination of repeaters and auxiliary stations. This has been fine historically because packet digipeaters need to be on the same frequency as the rest of the network so need no protection from interference.

Without FCC authority to "coordinate" these access points, we still have the ability to "register" them. This allows them to be published in the ARRL directory and be organized locally to minimize the interference potential.

I don't know of many coordination bodies who have taken any steps to address coordination of these systems. Some may just go along with the repeater nomenclature and ignore the technical design.

I was never sure what the issue was with our group. There seemed to be some anti-DSTAR sentiment that could have just been resistance to anything new. It could also have been that this would require they actually had to do something with the 23cm band if these systems became popular. My solution was to become the 23cm band chair for the group and push these issues from the inside. It may be the only solution.

I am told that the primary user does not respond to the ETCC or the regulator, which confirms one of my comments "have no say" and not the second one which said "They have no inclination"..

I have no doubt that the ETCC are working in the background, what is evident to me (my personal opinion, which I am entitled to) that the ETCC are not very good at keeping those of us with an interest, up to date with whats happening, last minutes on the website Sept 12th 2012.

Previous communications I had said "that any application would be rejected if submitted". it's this defeatist attitude i'm referring to, Instead of " Submit it and we will do all that we can to progress this", Which is what i'd expect from a section of the organisation representing my interests in the hobby.

Hope this clarifies the situation.

ETCC seem to be negative in their approach to this in the UK and as the body representing us, I feel that they have either no say or no inclination to push forward on this.

Every time I ask i'm hearing them blame the primary user.

So either we will be unique in our area at some stage or I have some now rather useless equipment on my hands.

Moderators Note:
I checked with Icom America and learned that the ID-1 is, in fact, being discontinued in the UK, but not in the USA.

However, the ID-1 price has apparently been reduced in the USA and is now backordered.

----------------------------------------------------------

Icom announces the discontinuation of production of the ID-1. Is also said to be stop the production of the 23cm voice and data repeater. All this devices are still sold until end of the stock.

I called Icom America Support and Sales and they had no Idea what was mentioned of discontinuing production of the ID-1's Sales people told me they have the radios on backorder. They had no indication of a production shutdown.

Re: ID-1 on 32 bit Windows 7

I am the one who posted the link back to Dean's post.
This thread had stopped without any positive answer and I felt this would help others searching for a solution.

The current driver file that you download from the FTDI site states it is for both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7.
The hard part for me was actually installing the drivers correctly and Dean explained that perfectly.

Did you try it? You don't state if it worked for you or not.
