I have ask that question on several occasions. The
response I got back was, "it was due to them?not being able to design in
enough battery capacity to support the 1.2-GHZ DD mode".
?
?At the same?time I also ask the question
"why they did not come out with a less costly version of the ID-1 without the DD
mode features". The response I got back was that the DD mode components used in
the
?ID-1 did not amount to a significant cost
savings if left them?out?of a new model. At one point ICOM said that
they would not build a 23cm radio without the DD capability..... Take a look at
the IC-9100...NO DD.? go figure.....
?
?I believe it is time for a tri-band
D-STAR HT.? Those of us who run full stack repeater systems would
appreciate an HT that would let us monitor activity on all of the
modules.?
?
Recently there has been significant strides in HT
designs that takes advantage of the Lithium Polymer batteries and power
management. Take a look at current crop of cell phones.? We need a SMART-HT
that is software?defined (SDR) and?will?work 2-meters, 70cm and
1.2 GHZ.?
