Thank you very much, that did it. Actually, James N0XIA also sent me some info and some files, but the files were not usable. I can also verify that the FTDI 2.08.08 release will work as well as the 2.06.06.
Somebody really needs to share this with Icom support. After finding the Japanese had all this information, I called Icom today for the 4th time. I was told there was no solution for the 4th time.

It is my understanding that the issue is really with the USB driver and not with the Icom software.
While the virtual machine is a fine idea, it sort of feels like I spent a lot of time and money building a race car only to run it on a mud track.
