Re: Greetings from W9DMD in central Illinois

Gary -
?
It's good to hear from you.
?
We've had a 23cm Digital Voice repeater & Data Access Point , NS9RC A on the air in the city of Chicago since August 2007.
It's on the 56 floor building 6 miles north of downtown Chicago. There is a 70cm D-DSTAR repeater, NS9RC B at the same site.
?
Some of us with ID-1s have used the digital voice capability, but we haven't used the data access point
and high-speed data capabilities yet.?
?
So I'm looking forward to learn from others on the group about the set-up of the ID-1s high-speed data capability and
the applications being used with high-speed data.

Subject: [D-STAR_23cm] Greetings from W9DMD in central Illinois

?

Just a note to introduce myself.

My name is Gary and the call is W9DMD.

Our local radio club purchased a used-but-never- installed D Star repeater earlier this spring and has installed it atop a grain elevator in Cadwell Illinois, operating under the W9BIL call sign.

We currently have the 440Mhz, mode B link and the gateway working and have procured most of the parts for the 144Mhz, C mode link. We hope to have this operational in a few more weeks at least before winter.

We also have the 1.2Ghz DD & DV repeaters, but are awaiting funds for the antenna and hardline. We hope to have this up by next spring some time. At least we hope to have the DD portion up and running. The 1.2Ghz duplexers seem to run about $1300!

The local club is a progressive group and delights in playing with state of the art radio devices.

Back in the late 1990, we operated an X1J TCP/IP node atop a grain elevator in Bement, IL that served not only as a router for our wide area network, but also as a link into the UIUC Center for Supercomputing for internet access. So looking forward to playing with faster data rates.
