Eir: ¡°Oh, hello!¡± she chirped, unbelievably relived that someone had showed interest in her stall.

¡°These are temporary tattoos. I use natural dyes that will stain the skin for a few days and then gradually wear off.¡± She gestured to the various bottles, ¡°These have all been made from plants I sourced here in Brea,¡± she picked up the bottle of yellow ink to show Nova.

¡°There are a few pre-made designs you can choose from or I can draw something,¡± putting the ink down she pulled her sleeve up to show the elaborate swirling design that trailed down her arm and over her hand. ¡°See?¡±

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

¡°Oh I love that!¡± Nova said, instantly bending over to inspect the artwork on Eir¡¯s skin more closely. The swirls and lines of it was pleasing to the eye, and it made her wonder how it would look on herself. It was at least less lasting than an actual tattoo. ¡°I would love to try one. Perhaps you can design something?¡± Nova said, deciding on a whim to give Eir free range.

¡°Do you think there¡¯s a way to get these designs onto clothing without it fading after a few weeks?¡± she asked, her mind already brimming with possibilities. It would add an extra little oomph to her clothes if she had designs like these on them.?

Characters: Rosalind, Old Man Cobbs

Old Man Cobbs:? Cobbs gave a grunt of approval with a nod of his head when she spoke of Nova's handiwork. He gave a tight smile that faltered at Rosalind's inquiry about his back. Straightening, he moved his hand away from the aching muscles. "Just a little too much work on the ranch, and a slight tumble from a fresh young stud" he replied, waving it off like it was nothing.

As much as he had been disappointed the day his son moved off the ranch and into town... Rosalind and Elowen had been really good for him, and to him. "I might come down to your place when things quiet down some" Cobbs assured her graciously. It would be foolish to say no. "I'm surprised Virgil isn't with you" he said. Okay, so it wasn't? very subtle that he was checking up on his boy. He worried... it was what he did...

"Boy's been behaving?" Cobbs asked even if Virgil hadn't been a boy in a long time, and he had been with the two women for quite some time.

------------------------------------------------------------

If this wasn¡¯t the father of one of her long time partners, Rosalind would¡¯ve had a quip or three concerning pulling a muscle during a tumble with a young stud. However, there were lines she wouldn¡¯t cross and lewd jokes with a man she regarded as a father in law was definitely one of them.?

She gave him a pleased grin when he assured her he¡¯d come by Hanami, and she looked around slightly as he moved the subject of conversation over onto Virgil. She couldn¡¯t spot her man easily in the throng so she shrugged. ¡°He¡¯s here somewhere, I¡¯ve not leashed him yet,¡± she said with a smile. ¡°He¡¯s as he always is, behaving some days and misbehavin' others. Makes for some spice in life for me and Ella,¡± Rosalind said. ¡°Now how would you feel about some honey-wine? I bought a big casket to share tonight and you could be the first to get a cup of it. What do you say?¡±?

Virgil's face reddened but he felt a pleasing warmth spread through him at the old man's praise that he had made a?good choice in their beverages. Made him feel appreciated, and wanted. Sometimes it was the little things in life. His dark brows arched upward and he smiled repeating curiously, "Fuddy duddys?" Really they were worried because the old man liked to tell dirty limericks?

His reddened more as Sebastian went on as if songwriting was far more difficult than writing a novel. Virgil shook his head, and admitted "No, it's easy if you want it to be". He strummed some chords on his guitar, and sang a simple song about sitting out by a fire. Listening to a story told by a man, on a clear autumn night under the stars. Virgil tilted his head slightly at the man's question.

"A...para-para what? You mean Rosa and Ella?" he asked furrowing his brow slightly. Virgil wonder if maybe it was the writer in Sebastian that needed a title for the bond between him, Ella and his granddaughter. Virgil just placed his hand on his chest and smiled at the old man, "They're my heart..."

Sebastian took the mug with a grateful smile, ¡°Ta, lad.¡± He inhaled the bitter aroma with satisfaction before tasking a sip, ¡°Ah, the fancy stuff. Good choice!¡± Sebastian¡¯s homestead was far enough away from the town centre that he didn¡¯t get to the Saloon as much as he would like. Stroud knew his liquor.

¡°Yes. In their infinite wisdom my children have decided I shall stay put by the fire and then after all the kiddies have gone to be I shall gracefully retire to the sleeping tent before I embarrass them with my more raunchy tales.¡± He rolled his eyes. ¡°I love them dearly but they are a bunch of fuddy duddys!¡±

The mention of Roslind brought a fond smile to his face. Ah so he was one of her lads. He was fond of Rosalind, she understood him.

¡°I write,¡± it was said proudly, ¡°I have quite a few stories written up and in circulation. Now song writing! That is an art. I get to waffle off for ages, but you, no you can¡¯t do that! Not unless you want your audience to fall asleep. To be brief and meaningful, now that is a true talent! Aurelian nodded, "Good evening to you. I'm doing fine, how bout you?"

He had to smile at the cat she was wearing, "That's one way to keep warm I guess."

But he did not forget the business part of this little celebration either, focusing back on his product.

"Would you care for something to drink or at least take a taste? Tonight it's on the house so won't cost you anything," he offered, gesturing with his hand at a selection of half a dozen bottles he had lined up side by side. All of it liquor he had made himself and, while he didn't want to brag, his large clientele of eager customers proved he had a talent for it.

"Don't drink much myself," Bettina commented, grinning widely, "I tend ta get a mite giddy after th' first dram, an' after that, well, Katy bar th' door!"

¡°Here, in the shade, if you don¡¯t mind carrying it.¡± He eyed the keg, in his youth he would have picked it up without a second thought but nowadays he had to be a little more cautious about what he did. ¡°You can be the first one to try some, if you would like?¡±

After hefting one of the small kegs onto her shoulder, she nodded.? "Might just take ya up on that, once I get ol' Dobbin there put up an' get me all gussied up all pretty!"? Laughing, she followed after him.? "I take a swig now, ya''d best know how ta unhitch that beast!? But, yeah, once I got no more responsibilities."? After all, she really didn't even have to make it 'home' tonight, and she was sure that there would be people to look out for her if she got too far into her cups!

¡°Be a lad and get me something to drink. Make it Irish, whatever it is.¡±

Virgil flashed the old man a boyish smile and nodded his head. Getting to his feet and carefully leaning his guitar against the stump he had been perched on, he took the writer's empty cup with both his hands... and skipped off with a pack of children at his heels. The raven haired young man knew were the booth was that belonged to the Paradise saloon. Stroud made the best alcohol, and had some kind of drink called Irish coffee.

That had to be Irish, right? It had the word right in the name. Virgil chewed on the little piece of dried mushroom that was jammed into the side of his cheek. Just enough to give him a good buzz, he didn't want to be high as a bird during the celebration. Not so early at least. He had to be careful hanging around Rosalind's grandfather, couldn't be too wild, right? He liked the old guy, he told some vivid stories.

It took him a bit to get the drinks, which in retrospect was probably a good thing. It gave the older man plenty of time to relieve himself before refilling his bladder again. The coffee was still good and warm when Virgil was handing it over to the writer. "You're going to tell another story, yeah?" he asked a little eagerly as he sat on the ground and leaned his shoulders and head against the stump. "Rosalind says you write them too...I write...songs and stuff" Virgil rambled, head in a happy place between the 'sroom and the alcohol in the coffee.

Elowen breathed in the crisp evening air, a delightful shiver going through her body at the slight chill in the air. This was her favourite time of year.

She had foregone the gloves or long coats, choosing to dress in a long sleeved shirt and trousers, as she had one cat in her arms and another draped over her shoulders. Their thick fur and the heat they radiated was enough to keep her warm. They both wore harnesses with a leash that was attached to her belt; it allowed them freedom of movement without the fear of them running off.

Running her hand through Caduceus¡¯ fur, she spied Aurelian¡¯s stand outside the bar. Alcohol was not something she imbedded very often but it was a special night and she knew Rosalind was trying to play nice with the bar owner. A little tipple and some conversation might help her in her quest.

Ambling over, more of a lumber with a heavy cat around her neck, she approached Aurelian with a smile,

¡°How is your evening going?¡±

Sebastian looked over as the young man joined him; he was a familiar figure and he paused to give him a brief nod and a smile. Rosalind¡¯s young man, or one of her young men, or women. Sebastian loved all his grandchildren the problem was he had so many and keeping up with their various love lives could be a challenge.

Was Rosalind the pretty one with the two young men? Or was she the pretty one with the young women? Either way she was the pretty one in a stable relationship which was more than could be said for some of his grandchildren! They should hurry up and settle down, he thought mulishly.

With a natural break coming up he finished with a dramatic flourish, promising to return shortly after a drink and a bathroom break. Getting to his feet he sheded the many blankets before approaching Virgil, cup in hand,

Virgil came over to the fire pit with his guitar, and his songbook rolled up in his back pocket. Sebastian was telling some kind of story to a pack of kids and a few adults. He came over with a mug of hot tea in hand, and found a tree stump to sit on. The old man was Rosalind's grandfather and quite the narrator as some of the children were quite mesmerized. He also looked like he was buried in a pile of blankets

It was an interesting story of a hero hunting monsters basically. Beowulf, maybe he would write a song about the hunter. He tried not to let his idle fingers pluck at the strings of his guitar and distract Sebastian's audience.

Well, everyone was trying to do their part to make this celebration a truly successful and enjoyable one so Aurelian felt he needed to do his part too. Normally his customers would be coming to him, drinking and gambling in his saloon. But on this cool evening, he had gone thru the work and trouble to set up a small makeshift bar (really just a two by four laid on top of a small tables) to pass out free samples of his liquor and beer. Granted, his regulars knew the quality and the tastes already but who knows maybe he would pick up some new customers once they tried his merchandise this evening. He let Mirriam have the night off too, no piano (he wasn't about to drag that heavy thing outside) so no entertainment. She could wander about then and enjoy herself.

Of course as some folks came up for a sample, Aurelian put on his best customer relations persona and chatted amiably with them. He could be a real charmer when he wanted to alright.

Eir: ¡°Ok!¡± she counted each bottle again, placing it exactly where she wanted them. The stall was a simple wooden table with two chairs next to it. There were papers artfully displayed that showed the possible designs people could have done. Her pen and cartridges were all stashed away safely until her first customer showed up.? It was her first year doing ink tattoos and she was excited; she had only recently relocated to Brea and she was eager to integrate herself into the community as firmly as she could.

?

This was her way of showing what she could do and how she could contribute to the community. She was already making plans to expand her dyeing to clothes and fabrics, maybe even paints or wood stains if she could figure it all out. Art was her passion; she loved tattooing permanent and semi-permanent artwork onto people but practical things would be more helpful to those around her. She wished art could be appreciated for art¡¯s sake but she was pragmatic.

?

Her plan was to offer the temporary ink tattoos for a few hours while there was still some light and the outside lighting was sufficient for the detailed work. Then she was going to go exploring.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nova nibbled on her pastry as she made her way down the stalls. She¡¯d set up her own as well, of course, but had decided that her customers would start trickling in when the night fell and the air cooled. She had set up a display of coats and capes featuring the fur Bibi had cured for her. They¡¯d not be needed yet, not while people were still warm, so she¡¯d snagged a bite to eat, and then a pastry as a dessert. Okay, so she hadn¡¯t meandered as much as looking for her family and friend. However, not catching sight of any of them, her attention had been caught by the simple stall with small bottles lined up just so on a table.?

¡°What is it you offer here?¡± Nova asked the other woman, trying to remember her name. It was a bit unusual. Air? ¡°Is it some sort of painting?¡± she asked, hazarding a guess as there was an utter lack of anything else than the bottles and the designs.?

His brow arched slightly at her coat, because he could pick out Nova's handiwork anywhere. "You look lovely" Cobbs grunted putting a hand to his lower back when he had straightened back up. Breaking horses was really a young man's game, he really had to convince Virgil to come by in the warmer months more. Or maybe that young lady that rode into town on that dapple gray.

------------------------------------------------------------

¡°Thank you, your daughter has some real talent with the needle,¡± Rosalind said. ¡°It was the least I could do to try out this for the festival. She seemed certain I might start a trend, which is very flattering,¡± Rosalind continued, and pocketed the book with another murmured thanks.?

Her eyes were naturally drawn to the way he held himself and how he¡¯d needed to support his back to get up. Sure, the man was old, but Rosalind was absolutely incapable of seeing someone in discomfort without needing to alleviate it for them if possible.? Doubly so because this was the father of one of her lovers, and Virgil loved his dad.?

Hanna¡¯s head popped up above the general bustle of the food production line. She saw a young woman calling out about a delivery. Pushing her way through the throng of people she called out in return,

¡°Hello, luv. A delivery?¡± That was not her area. Looking around she spotted Sinjin, the newly showered and primped Sinjin. With a playful smirk she waved her arms to get his attention and bellowed out;

¡°Sinjin! Sinjin luv! Delivery!¡± She hollered the last word super loudly, loudly enough to grab Sinjin¡¯s attention and the attention of several people around her. Shrugging the attention off she patted the woman on her shoulder, ¡°He¡¯ll be over in a moment, luv. He will help you out. There is some fresh lemonade being made, go grab yourself a drink afterwards,¡± she sent her a wink before disappearing back into the bustle of people.

While she had been to Equinox festivals before, none had been as big as this, and Bettina was excited for the coming festivities, and especially the food!? Sure, what she got at Hanami was great, certainly better than anything she could have made herself, but the variety that was rumored to be available tonight really had her intrigued, and she hadn't even eaten breakfast so that she'd have all the more room for the good stuff!

The better part of her day had been hauling freight and people.? The stable where she kept Dobbin had a wagon, and she had borrowed that so she could go around to some of the outlying farms and ferry in folks, as well as gathering blankets, mats and chairs for the sleeping tent as well as some of the food supplies.

Now, though, as the beginning of the festivities neared, she was on her last run, all she had to do was deliver this last load of supplies, then she could get Dobbin settled in his stall, get herself cleaned up and join in the fun and feasting!

After leaving the wagon parked on a side street, she hopped from the seat and trotted over to the main food booth.? "Hey!" she called out, smiling as she breathed in the wonderful aromas, "I have a delivery for someone here..."
