Re: Running CabConverter under Catalina (10.15.x) or later

Colleagues,
It might be more simple than I had thought. (Thanks to K1IG for the tip!)? In the System Preferences there is a "Security & Privacy" icon. Select it. This will bring up the "Security & Privacy" panel. Click on the "Privacy" tab. Click on the "File and Folders" item along the left side of the panel.? This lists the applications and the corresponding permissions for them. Ensure that any java entries have access to the Documents folder as shown below. (There might be two java entries because there may be multiple instances of Java on your machine.) If you allow Java access to the Documents folder in this way, and if you still don't get recipe files appearing in the drop down menu within CabConverter, please let me know.? Thank you and 73! -- Scott (NE1RD and author of CabConverter) |
Running CabConverter under Catalina (10.15.x) or later
#file-notice
Attention Catalina users:?
Apple continues to tighten its security policies with each new release. You may have noticed you must now grant specific applications access to the Documents or Photos directories. CabConverter may be bumping into those same security checks which are preventing the program from finding its recipes and loading log files. I have uploaded two files into the Files area in the "Java Permissions help" folder. They are: * policy.all * and runCabConverter.sh I suggest that users who are having problems with CabConverter on 10.15 or later start the application from the command line instead of just double-clicking on the icon. The "runCabConverter.sh" script will start CabConverter using this policy file -- and that should grant the permissions we need for the application. I also suggest opening the System Preferences and clicking on the "Java" icon. This will present you with a button to start the Java Control Panel in a separate window. Open that window and click on the "Security" tab. Ensure that the security level is "High" and NOT "Very High". Click the "High radio button to change it if necessary. Also, you should add an entry to the "Exception Site List". Click on the "Edit Site List..." button to pop up the "Exception Site List" window. Click the Add button and add the entry? file:/ Click OK when you are finished. It will give you a warning: click Continue. Then click OK to close that popup window. You may now click OK to close the Java Control Panel. I am unable to reproduce some of the problems I've heard about, so I need some help debugging this. If you are a Catalina user, and you are having problems, please try these steps and let us know if it helped. Thank you and 73 de NE1RD. -- Scott (NE1RD and author of CabConverter) |

Re: Cab Converter & Bitdefender

开云体育My concern was that it was Bitdefender, not Apple. I’ve had some problems with them in that regard. They do have free trials if you ever wanted to use it for testing. On a positive note, they discovered quite a few viruses/trojans in my Outlook mail that I also use on a PC that never caught them! 73, WA1OUI On Oct 8, 2020, at 8:06 AM, NE1RD B. Cab Converter & Bitdefender
David Kaplan
I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 and recently rebuilt my Mac (software) from a complete erase to clean up years of crud that had accumulated.
I've reinstalled CabConverter, put the recipes in my ~/Documents and it can't find them. I'm now using using Bit Defender antivirus which I hadn't used the last time I ran CabConverter.?I'm getting no warning messages from you or then. N ormally I can tell BD to accept a program accessing files in ~/Documents, but it doesn't accept the .jar as an app to be allowed to access other files. Where is the app that actually accesses the Doc folder and/or is this something that I should take up with Bitdefender? Thanks. |
Re: Recipe for Portable Operations Challenge
Scott,
Thanks for the SRX/STX and SRXn/STXn info. Makes sense.? Still confused about adding power and station class to the log. The contest organizers aren't that clear on the format other than to recommend using N1NN to burn the Cabrillo log.... Latest recipe version enclosed. Talk to you later. Jack |
Re: Recipe for Portable Operations Challenge
MacLogger DX provides two input places for received exchange data: the SRX and SRXn. The first (SRX) is used for capturing a text exchange. The second (SRXn) is used to capture a number (typically a serial number). We don't capture exchange data into GRID or STATE or other fields. It would be better if we could, but that isn't how the UI was set up when we began in 2013.
If we're capturing, say, a GRID, then we tell the user to configure the contest panel in MacLoggerDX to present the text fields (SRX and STX) to the user, then we lay out those values in the QSO record using <SRX> and <STX> XML tags. (If users also want to put that information in the GRID field of MacLoggerDX, they can either copy it later from the SRX field, or use the mapping that newer versions of the logger provide). In short: all we have for received exchange information is one of two fields: TEXT or NUMERIC, SRX or SRXn. Those are the only two exchange fields that can appear in the QSO record for received data. From the document: The following keywords are available for the QSO section: ? ????????????? TheirCallsign????? ~ The call sign of the station contacted in this QSO ????????????? MyCallsign??????????????????????? ~ The call sign of the user (obtained from the personal data section) ????????????? Date?????????????????????????????????? ~ The date of the QSO in the form YYYY-MM-DD ????????????? Time????????????????????????????????? ~ The time of the QSO in the form HHMM ????????????? Frequency??????????????????????? ~ The frequency of the QSO in the form NNNNN (in KHz) ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ? unless the inMhz="true" which formats it in MHz NN or NNN ????????????? Mode??????????????????????????????? ~ The mode used in the contact (see note below) ????????????? RSTs?????????????????????????????????? ~ The RST sent ????????????? RSTr?????????????????????????????????? ~ The RST received ????????????? STXn????????????????????????????????? ~ The serial number (numeric field) sent ????????????? SRXn????????????????????????????????? ~ The serial number (numeric field) received ????????????? STX???????????????????????????????????? ~ The exchange string sent ????????????? SRX???????????????????????????????????? ~ The exchange string received |
Re: Recipe for Portable Operations Challenge
Scott
Much appreciated. I used your instructions, examples (ARRL-VHF and Field Day), but I just didn't know where elements such as my grid, their grid, and serial numbers ought to go. I looked up teh and articles on . Still couldn't determine if grids and serial numbers ought to go in STX/SRX or use another element. Also didn't know how much of the header was "mandatory" or not. Latest version attached. Thanks in advance, Jack |
Re: Recipe for Portable Operations Challenge
I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to look at this last night. I'll take a look tonight after work.
I'd like to remind everybody that there is a write-up on how to create recipes in the documentation folder of CabConverter. At first glance, I think the problem with this one is in the QSO portion where we're using an unknown tag. It should have been something like STX or SRX for the sent text and received text fields. Also, if you run CabConverter from the command line it will show error messages for what when wrong during the recipe's parsing. More tonight. 73! -- Scott (NE1RD and author of CabConverter) |
Recipe for Portable Operations Challenge
Is anyone aware of a recipe for the from this past weekend? I tried creating a recipe, placing in the Documents/CCContents folder, but it's not being recognized by the program. Hoping someone has already correctly created the recipe....

Re: CQ WW VHF Recipe
开云体育That would have been Ed McMahon to Jonny Carson. [I shutter to think of what age group this puts me in!]As for David Allred, he's been god-like with Mac stuff since I've known him. I always bump into him at Dayton (one of the many reasons I was disappointed it was cancelled this year). He's a terrific resource for anything Mac or network related. Glad we got another recipe in the system. Thanks again for your help! -- Scott (NE1RD and author of CabConverter) todd ruby wrote on 7/20/20 11:43 PM: Dear Scott B. Re: CQ WW VHF Recipe
开云体育Dear ScottAs somebody famous once said, “You are correct, sir!”? Operator error indeed. this recipe looks perfect and I think everyone who needs to use it will have no problem with their cabrillo or the CQ robot. thanks again for your guidance! 73 todd WB2ZAB PS? I don’t feel too bad, as I had to admit to some serious personal failings this afternoon to David Allred!

Re: CQ WW VHF Recipe
开云体育Hey, Todd.I think you somehow dragged a webpage shortcut instead of the file. Try getting the .xml file again by clicking the the blue CQ-VHF.xml link. It should download an .xml file, not a .webloc. -- Scott (NE1RD) todd ruby wrote on 7/20/20 11:34 PM: Hi Scott B. Scott Andersen The future is already here - it is just unevenly distributed.
