VE2DX HUB TO INTERFACE THE CIRO MAZZONI LOOP ANTENNA TO ICOM IC-705 13
Hello Richard Et al, A year ago there was discussion on the Icom IC-705 forum regarding the use of the VE2DX Hub to interface between the Icom IC-705 bluetooth interface and the Ciro Mazzoni loop Antenna controller which includes a CI-V connection. However, I believe it was discovered that the VE2DX Hub did not work as an interface between the IC-705 and the Ciro Mazzoni Loop Antenna controller. I am looking at the future purchase of a Ciro Mazzoni Loop Antenna for my Icom IC-705 and wanted to know in advance of any purchase, if this interface issue has been resolved or not? Thanks in advance for your assistance. 73. Dean Athan

Multiple masters on one bus? 9
Hi group, Contemplating a configuration here and wonder if it's possible. I have a transceiver (IC-718) currently hooked to a Digimode4 for its CAT operations. Paired with it is an R-75 which uses the serial connection to the same host PC for such things as DSC decoding or other general HF digital activities. I want to add another R-75 to the mix and enable CI-V Transceive on it, so that receiver will track the transceiver if mode/frequency updates are made. Or vice-versa depending on the Set Menu configs of each rig. Currently have a CT-17. Thoughts are to tie the Digimode4 and all three radios into it, each with separate addresses. For general purpose HF activities I'd use the CT-17's serial port to access either of the receivers (most usually, the original paired one) and to use comms programs like flrig or wsjtx with the transceiver I'll use the Digimode4's /dev/TTYUSB resource as its serial connection. Would multiple masters on the same bus be problematic? If so, could Receiver 1 be run at 9600 baud and the other plus the transceiver run at, say, 19.2k to avoid collisions? Or would a CT-17B be a better way to go here? I want a degree of flexibility in calling the various rigs from the various programs. Caveat: Only one program will use a given resource at a time - so no conflicts opening COM ports or the like. Thanks for all suggestions and input. 73 - Fred, N8YX

IC-705 Transciev bug
Here is an interesting bug that Italian ham radio operators raised to me a couple of years ago. I could only revisit it thanks to the help of John Halkiadakis, VK3YP, from Melbourne, Australia. Problem: When an IC-705 is linked via Bluetooth to a CI-V hub, and you try to change to DATA mode in the radio, the IC-705 switches back out of DATA Mode. Test: - Ok, here are my test results and conclusion... setup... Ic-705 is linked to VE2DX CT17B-6BT via Bluetooth at 9600 bps. The same IC-705 is linked via USB to a PC at 38400bps. Application: HHD Device Monitoring of Com Port COM14 in the PC (IC-705 first com port (CI-V) 705 Transceive ON, Data recorded by HHD: FE FE 00 A4 01 01 02 FD FE FE 00 A4 01 01 02 FD FE FE (Header) 00 (Destination 00 = all) A4 (IC-705) 01 (Mode) 01 (USB) 02 (Filter 2) FD (Trailer) and it is then repeated. Thus, the data sent on the CI-V bus is echoed (as expected) but DOES NOT contain the 06 commands needed to know the Data mode. Thus, the radio reaction is to switch back to the requested mode, aka USB in this case, and not USB-D. To resolve this, the radio must NOT be in Transceive or ICOM needs to correct the IC-705 firmware to send out BOTH the 01 and 06 commands, and the result would be: FE FE 00 A4 01 01 02 FD FE FE 00 A4 06 01 02 FD FE FE 00 A4 01 01 02 FD FE FE 00 A4 06 01 02 FD... In this corrected sequence, BOTH the 01 and 06 commands are sent out in transceive mode, and thus, BOTH are echoed back to the radio, preventing this problem. Hope this helps you. -- 73 Richard VE2DX, Jesus Island, PQ-014 VE2DX ELECTRONIC WWW.VE2DX.COM Only the Best ICOM, ERC and HRD /g/CIV Follow my projects on www.facebook.com/VE2DX/

PW-1 commands 12
Hi all, Background - Node red controlling band changes between Flex Radio 6600 and IC-746. Works pretty nicely. Using a USB-Serial adapter, and then a Serial to CI-V adapter. What I want to do is use it to control band switching on a PW-1. Not much use one radio controlling another - I was just using the radio as a testbed. However, removing from the radio and connecting to the amp connecting the CI-V adapter to the PW-1, I get no response from the Amplifier. I can see the commands sent. I do have 13.8 volts applied to the DIN cable and plugged in. Is there a separate set of commands for the amplifier? It does bandswitch normally when attached to the 746. I don't see anything amplifier specific in the CI-V documentation.

Need Help: IC9700 Transceiver Mode With S.A.T Device 6
Hi. Alan, WA9WUD here. I am working on a Node-Red-based bridge between the S.A.T satellite tracker and a Flex Radio. The S.A.T device (ICOM Controller) uses CI-V protocol directly to and from the IC9700. I have built a Node-Red bridge to input the S.A.T CI-V and bridge that protocol to the Flex API protocol. S.A.T thinks it is talking to/from an IC9700. I have everything working except for emulating the 9700 Transceiver Mode. I need this when the satellite UpLink and DownLink are in the same band. First, let me describe the non-same band frequency control, which works well. I look in the buffer position(4) for the commands and find command 0x00 "Send the frequency data" and command 0x07, "Select the VFO Mode". I tag the frequency buffer with the preceding VFO mode, and use those tags, to direct the frequency decode to the main band or sub band. Band code Oxd0 for the main and 0xd1 for the sub. The S.A.T. controller sends CI-V Protocal frequency requests, command 0x03 very quickly and I respond with the most recent Flex Radio main Frequency. This works, because the band is set for 0x00, main. All good for two band operation. Now, same band, Transceiver Mode Operation, and my request for help When I switch to a satellite with same band up and down, Like IO-117, the S.A.T. controller sends a series of VFO commands, but always ends with 0x00, Transceiver Mode, VFO A, and then stops. Then I see one second updates of frequency from command Ox07, "Select the VFO Mode" with the value 0x00, VFO A. So, now I assume, in ICOM land, the S.A.T is updating VFO A in while in the Transceiver Mode. My understanding is when the ICOM goes to TX, in some form (my question here), the ICOM tells the S.A.T. controller it is in TX, so the S.A.T will send a new command command 0x07, sub 0xd2, data 0x01 "VFO B" followed by a command 0x00 (frequency) buffer. This should send the VFO B frequency and TX the commanded frequency......correct? So two questions. Is my understanding of the Transceiver Mode and frequency switching between VFO A and VFO B correct? And, most important, what is the command number, sub number and if used data, for what the IC9700 sends to the S.A.T. controller to tell it it is in TX, and for the S.A.T. controller to send VFO B frequency back to the IC9700 (my bridge)? Alan. WA9WUD P.S, email me if anyone want a copy of my Node-Red flow and meybe help with the above.

ID-52 5
Hi, an amateur is trying to use his Icom ID-52 with our app "Satellite Tracking" which works great with a lot of Icom radios, but the radio and app are behaving a bit strangely. For example, we write a command to the serial port, BUT the command doesn't seem to be sent to the radio until the user turns the dial on the radio - at that point the radio broadcasts the frequency in use and then we see the serial port send the command we wrote to the radio. Do you happen to know if the ID-52 has some special handshake we need to use? Our app is using the usual handshake of None. Thanks in advance.

CI-V programming query 7
I’m a noob to CI-V programming. So some of this might be pretty noobish. I have an application I’m building in Node-Red to act as a controller for my PW-1 amplifier from my Flex 6600. I’m using my IC-746 as a testbed, since it’s easier to work with than the amp. I’m reading the frequencies of the Icom with my Node-Red flow. I’m changing bands on my Flex from within Node-red. So far, so good. Now I want to transmit to the radio what Band I want to be on. I’ve been trying, but without success. As well, the reference manual showed a couple things that confused me, like the FD command = (then the numbers for the frequency desired) amost as if the numbers were a replacement for FD. While the dat section would seem like the way to go. I guess the easiest way for me to figure it out for the future would be to ask: What is the sequence to transmit if I want the radio to end up on say 7.25 MHz? From there I can figure out the different bands I want to move the amp around with. - 73 - - Michael Coslo N3LI - Frequency Coordinator, Beaver Stadium President, Nittany Amateur Radio Club mjc5@... mjcn3li@... Controller update
I’ve added a momentary switch to the prototype controller to which I plan to assign a PTT function for transceivers, but for the 8600 it could perhaps be used to cycle through the Attenuator settings or fixed squelch levels. Correst CI-V operating voltage 3
Hello gang, someone sent me a message asking a very good question, what IS the correct CI-V voltage; The answer is fairly simple 5VDC PtoP. The idle CI-V voltage should be 5VDC and drops to near Zero when a bit is sent! But, I have seen different OEN devices driving CI-V all the way down to 3.3VDC and work fine. I strongly suggest you drive any projects at 5VDC to play it safe. Please keep in mind, if you measure using a DVM, the resulting reading is false, since depending on the data your average voltage will vary a lot! This should be properly be measured using a Scope NOT a DVM. Please share your projects with the group. Off the shelf and onto the desktop
The next phase of this project began in January 2023 after a chance conversation about Icom’s RC-28 controller and 8600 receiver. A few days later while scrolling through the online RS catalogue I spotted a rather sleek enclosure. I’d already began an upgrade to Two rotary encoders to my “radio assistant” ( a.k.a. SCIVI ), and wondered if a third optical or magnetic device could be dedicated to VFO adjustment. Several months on and a proof of concept device is being tested. https://youtube.com/shorts/nXkNTlVqNOg?feature=share
