Problem with Quansheng UV-K5 after CHIRP June Upgrades
I previously used Chirp successfully to download from and upload to my Quansheng UV¨CK5 back in May.
?
Now (23-June, 20240618, Python 3.10.8, wxPython 4.2.0 msw (phoenix), wxWidgets 3.2.0), I¡¯m getting an error that says ¡°Firmware version is not supported by this driver¡±.
I have upgraded Chirp two or three times since it worked well with this radio. I have the older Chirp installers saved. Is it safe to re-install an older version of Chirp on top of the newer one that isn¡¯t working with this radio? Thanks, Rob KK6JNI |

The driver now instead of having several flavors of UV-K5 models selections (standard, egzumer, etc), auto detects the firmware type during the download, stores it in the meta data and uses that to correctly upload back to the correct radio. I suspect your 'image' does not contain the needed meta data. You probably have to download from the radio using the latest CHIRP, load the 'old' image into a second tab, and finally transfer the memories from the 'old' tab to the 'new' tab to build an 'image' that is compatible with the latest CHIRP builds. I haven't had mine powered on in awhile. It uploads and downloads fine with the latest build. It has egzumer v0.21 firmware. I see that a few lines of the display have ceased to function. I guess I shouldn't complain for a $15 radio. Guess I'll have to dig out another one. I am a sucker for buying sub-$20 multi-band handheld radios. Yes. The CHIRP website also maintains a few months of previous versions if you need to roll back for some reason. Jim KC9HI |
Uninstall the present version you have in your computer first then install whatever version you want after. Or, install an older version in a different computer. Tony VA7TF On Mon, Jun 24, 2024, 6:29 AM Rob Johnson KK6JNI via <lists=[email protected]> wrote:
