Wouxun KG-UV8E unable to see or change settings

So I download from HT. Get the image file, I'm able to change. Add, delete and do whatever you want, when I click on settings there's nothing there, just a blank page. No type of format, no error message, no nothing. So unable to have Repeater names, channels shows nothing on display of HT
?Anyone seen this before? Is there a fix??
I can upload to radio but it doesn't show anything in channels other than channel 1 , 2, 3 and so on.
Needing next step
All help appreciated?

If it's not supported, you can try one of these options, if available:

1. Look for a similar Yaesu radio in the list and try it, like maybe the model
before that one. You might see if you can send feedback on your model not being
supported yet on the official site. It won't change anything today, but it might
get them working on it soon if enough people request support for that radio. If
you're not able to download from the radio using a different model, then it
probably isn't close enough to work.

2. Check RT Systems and see if they have your radio supported. They support more
radios than CHIRP. They are not free, however. They do offer support for their
product.

3. Does Yaesu offer their own programming software for your radio? If so, try
that. It might not be as easy to use but if it's available, it might be worth
trying. I found out that one of my radios has programming software available
from their website. I used CHIRP since I wasn't aware of that.

Chirp Doesn't Write to Kenwood TM-271

I was all excited to use Chirp for my TM-271. Using the prior version of Chirp, not the new one, everything went well until I tried to write data to the radio, but nothing happens. I worked on it for a couple of hours, but no bueno.
It downloads from the radio fine, but not vice versa? Using Win7 and a good cable (i.e. works fine with the Kenwood softwire tor ead and write).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Radioddity GA510 came with a cable. Never had a problem using the Radioddity/manufacturer¡¯s programming software.?

Same-same the AnyTone AT778uv cable. That radio didn¡¯t go into tx upon read with CHIRP, by the way.

The IC-7300 just links to the computer with a standard USB hose. All chippy stuff is covered in the radio.?

I made this discovery because neither the Radioddity nor AnyTone software give a print or convert to spreadsheet option. CHIRP at least gives me an export option, which so far lets me print out my channel/memory list. Setting the GA510 for the Begali crew members with whom I¡¯ve worked at Dayton, and I wanted to be able to show ¡®em what I¡¯d loaded on the HT. CHIRP worked great for that but I was concerned that I could have bricked my HT if I¡¯d dallied much longer before discovering the problem.?

I¡¯ll be a damn sight more careful henceforward. And, yes, I¡¯ll report this to the developer crew.?

Thanks for the input/suggestions.

If you continue seeing that, you might report it at the official CHIRP website.
We're a self-help group here and no one from the development team monitors this
group.

First, though, I'd make sure you're using the correct driver for the chipset in
the USB cable you're using. If you're using a cable with a knock-off of the
Prolific chipset, it likely won't work. The FDTI chipset has never given me any
trouble, and there's a third one for the cheap Chinese cables that has worked
well also.

Re: Read from radio ends with radio in transmit

I would suspected a device driver issue. Which chip is in your programming cable? Which operating system?

Read from radio ends with radio in transmit

Nils R. Bull Young

Maybe discussed before but as a new member . . .?

Recently used CHIRP to read from my Radioddity GA-510 HT. Took me a few minutes once I'd done that to discover that the radio had been sitting there in transmit for all that time. The battery got pretty warm but the heat sink/body channel of the radio was blistering hot. Turned off the radio, removed the batt and set it to cool.

Then I tried reading from my IC-7300 and at the end of reading that radio's memory settings, the IC-7300 went into transmit. Noticed that immediately 'cause the fan came on and the tx light light up.?

Wanting, like the Lock Picking Lawyer, to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I read from the IC-7300 again and, yep, the radio went into transmit. Only stopped when I closed CHIRP.

So perhaps either that's a bug needs fixed or it's a long standing issue that others have noticed but for which there is yet no fix.

And yes, I'm running a version downloaded a month or so ago. Reads as CHIRP next-20230311/Python 3.10.8, so it ain't that old.

I'm definitely not smarter than you about Linux but I am a casual user. I run a
Windows application (an email program Forte Agent) in Linux Mint using
Crossover, but WINE is similar and can run Windows programs in Linux (Crossover
is a more refined version of WINE).

If you don't get any answers, you might try installing CHIRP under the WINE
environment in Linux and see if it works. It's probably not what you want, but
if it works, then at least you get the use of CHIRP.

You might consider keeping an older laptop with Windows just for this sort of
thing. I do the opposite--I keep an old laptop with Linux on it. But my use of
Linux is just to dabble in Linux in case it ends up becoming the OS we all use
someday. Also just to learn something different.

Many years ago, I gathered information from a few sources and put together a
step by step procedure to get Linux to run on a Dell Inspiron 7000. I didn't
invent the process, just made it easy to follow. And it worked. That was
probably around 1996 or 1998 or so. Laptops were big and heavy back then, about
10 pounds if I used both batteries in the slots instead of one battery and the
CDROM drive.

There were a few other things I had to "get under the hood" so to speak to get
to work that are now an expected feature in Linux, like disabling the touchpad
for a second or two when typing so that you don't suddenly end up typing inside
a paragraph or two up the page instead of where you were typing. That only
required editing a file and adding a line. Oh, there also was a bug in an early
beta of Ubuntu that ended up disabling a USB port for scanners, so I learned how
to work around that, too. Linuxquestions.org was where I learned a lot.
Generally they were a friendly bunch, unlike BSD forums.

I hope you get it going. If nothing else, maybe you can get access to a friend's
or relative's PC that has Windows and install it on that and use it that way in
Windows. I'd bet that Windows was the intended platform for CHIRP to be used on
and Linux was an afterthought.

Help with New Chirp on Linux Mint

I've upgraded to Linux Mint 21.1 on three laptops and have installed New Chirp on all of them.? When I go to download from my Baofeng UV-5R it appears to download (bar goes across to the end) and then I get this message - module 'collections' has no attribute 'callable'.? At that point I'm dead in the water.? Happens exactly the same on all three laptops running Linux Mint 21.1.? I've Googled it, read some, but not being a wizard at Linux, none of it makes any sense to me.? Perhaps someone far smarter than I am can walk me through a fix, step by step, for this.? If that's even possible.? Thank you, Richard AG5M

You don't want to click File -> New to start out because that opens a CSV format tab. A CSV format tab cannot be directly uploaded to "clone mode" radios. Your first steps should be

1. Download from your radio to create a tab that is compatible with your radio.
2. Save the first successful download from your radio, unedited, to a native CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file to be kept in a safe place as a backup.

So if you did a lot of work in your CSV type tab, just take a pause to do the steps above. Then copy-and-paste the work you did on the CSV type tab to the IMG type tab that was created from your radio.

Thank you, Jim. But first, how do I get the chirp to show on the screen once it is downloaded?
It really isn't any different from any other Windows application.

1. Download CHIRP-next from the downloads page linked to here:
2. Download the "installer.exe" version (it should be highlighted) and save to a convenient location on your computer (the Downloads folder, for example)
3. Use the Windows File Explorer application to find the downloaded file
4. Right-click the file and choose "Run as administrator" to launch the installer and complete the installation. Note: CHIRP-next requires Windows 10 64-bit or later. It will not run on a 32-bit version of Windows 10.

Assuming that CHIRP-next was successfully installed on your computer, do either of the following to run it.

1a. Find the CHIRP shortcut in the Start menu and click it to launch CHIRP-next

1b. Begin typing "chirp" in the "Type here to search" box until you see the CHIRP short listed, then click the shortcut (this is my recommended method)

That's it. CHIRP-next is running.

You simply download from your radio to create a tab that is compatible with your radio. Then you fill out/modify your channel data row-by-row.

1. How to get chirp on the screen of Win 10 laptop?
After CHIRP-next has been fully installed, I type "chirp" in the Windows 10 "Type here to search" box until I see the CHIRP shortcut and then click the shortcut to launch CHIRP.

2. How to enter repeater data?
Many ways.

- manually entered, one row at-a-time
- copy-and-paste from another tab created by another radio, the current radio, or a "stock config" file.
- from the "Query Source"
- copy-and-paste from other sources. For example you can copy-and-paste the bracketed text below (including the brackets) into CHIRP-next to program the WB9TLH near Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana repeater that is local to me.
