Re: eBay listings exaggerations
I agree David, but my eBay experience while long*, is small (actually micro) compared with the junk dealers and overseas merchants. eBay doesn't even supply my packing tape or materials like the big boys get. As long as eBay wants to be AMAZON etc. that'll never change. They do crack down on person-to-person solicitation, but probably don't have time to put an actual person on the case. * In the beginning, eBay was all text. If you wanted a picture, you had to host it somewhere and provide a text link to it. Pictures were forbidden on eBay, and we had dial up modems, 28k! It took me all day to download the Gamma Ray Spectrum Catalog from Idaho National Lab! It was the largest file (12MB) I ever successfully downloaded, and it took several attempts because I would get bumped off of internet and have to start over. As my old friend, Iben Trudaropes says, "Grin and Bear it!" ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe absolute max capacity for an 18650 lipo is 3400mah. I own a bunch of ultrafire brand cells. The high capacity (less than 3000 mah) cells' voltage will collapse under high load then recover. They are poor candidates for power drills, but for low steady discharge like a geiger counter, they should work well and are relatively cheap if you buy them on eBay from China

Yes, that's about it. Right now, I'm proving the way to add variable HV with a knob inside, and that small circuit adds a lot more stability to the whole GC, but requires 2 9V batteries to work plus the two D cells. Next step might be to eliminate that
by eliminating the transformer circuit which is the power hog, replacing it with a modern solid state module. This should increase battery life enormously, but for now nothing needs to be done, because we can already select any HV we want via the present Zener
stack, and I have PC Boards with 3 position switches for that ready and in stock.
I had you wait off on the cut trace part because I wanted to go all the way back to the beginning to make sure it was 100% the best way to go, and now I have done that with these last 15 ENi boards. So the way you've been doing it is verified once again.
Thanks for getting me off my but and doing this, it's been on the Bucket List for years to do it, now it's done we can look for more options to add. Later we'll discuss the unit's input sensitivity, something that needs to be boosted if scintillation probes
are to be used, but the solution is a preamplifier circuit, and we have had that all along. Most users will always use GM tube probes anyway, so we don't include that preamp normally unless requested.
Dr. Prutchi did include his version of the preamp in his ENi PRO article, and the timer and digital counter too, we thank him for exploring that area. I always encourage others to build upon my modest beginnings or making these worthy old workhorses better
and to offer more individual choices for users to have their particular version of fun.
Peter, (I call him P.), of our groups came up with a really helpful audio circuit for using the LENi when prospecting, instead of clicking, it converts the clicks to an audio tone, more like a metal detector sounds . I like that a lot and want to build
one for myself just for fun. Check out his work on our sister Group [email protected]
