Re: Question about Cad2Lathe
开云体育Hi Les: ? I tried to log in at the Sheetcam forum, and it appears that I have forgotten my username and password. ? I tried doing the “forgot password” stuff, to both email addresses that I currently use, and never got a message about resetting password. ? I also tried re-registering, and everything appeared to work, except that I never got the confirmation email. ? I am wondering if there is an issue with the forum software, or if it is on my end. ? Ik use always water on the EDM sinker if you got a fire you know why you gone use water, I have build the first EDM wire machine home build Op do 2 jun. 2022 om 23:57 schreef ebrucehunter via <Brucekareen=[email protected]>: Martin, |
Re: New to group; DIY EDM Sinker...is Water OK for DIelectric?
Martin,
I have experimented with both distilled and tap water as a dielectric fluid in a mini-edm machine.? While water works, the tool wear rate has been excessive.? I have been hoping to obtain some non-inflammable fluid for testing, but have not so far.? I have also considered silicone oil, which is non-inflammable, but it comes with its own problems. Some of my experience with water as a dielectric fluid in the Mini-EDM machine is detailed in a summary written for a microwave electronics group.? I will try to post a copy in the EDM section of the group's files. Bruce, KG6OJI |
Re: New to group; DIY EDM Sinker...is Water OK for D Ielectric?
I just visited a local company who has 6 large wire EDM units cutting some pretty exotic materials. Very high tolerance and finish. The owner uses rain water for his dielectric liquid. Much cleaner and doesn't have the chemicals additives that would mess up the machinery. A typical rain storm of 1" or so gives him a few thousand gallons that is then filtered to get rid of bugs and leaves.
He doesn't want his company name or address listed because of the companies that use his services.??

Martin, You're making a lot of sense.? Wire edm's use DI water.? There might be a rust issue for sinker tool holders.? There might be some electrical shorting issues that dielectric fluid foils too.? The surface contact area is different between wire and graphite electrodes.? The wire is wearing and the gap is held consistent whereas the graphite... I don't know...? You've got a great question.? Somebody smarter than me must have the answer. ? Date: Tue, 31 May 2022 14:29:59 -0700 Finally getting around to trying to build a sinker EDM.? One thing that has always giving me pause is the use of oil dielectric (smell, messy, fumes).? I recently watched a video (Andy's Machines) where he used DI water and a coffee filter.? I am not looking for absolute precision work; just general hobby stuff and experimenting.? Are any of those out there who have build their own sinker machines running water? Thanks in advance. |

开云体育Hi Martin;?I'm unaware of anyone building a water base dielectric EDM, but again, that doesn't mean it hasn't happen.? Regardless, many folks will use Auggie to attempt to achieve similar results. Good Luck Cheers Bob or On 5/31/2022 6:29 PM, Martin Bonfiore

Re: Solid V Wheel bearings
If stray current is causing problems to plastic bearings, I'd be rather intrigued to see that setup.

These bearing are similar to the roller guides used on doors, they shouldn't deform overnight unless they're made from jelly. Even then, there shouldn't be enough force in a laser cutter to damage a bearing. Very odd. Most lasers use linear bearings, this sounds like a 3D printer pretending to be one. Still, plastic bearings work on those, even the cheap K40 lasers use plastic rollers on the head. Tony -----Original Message----- |
