Re: AMAZING STUFF!

First, I don't believe that Dan's post (copy below) mentions anything about
using linear encoders to correct commanded motion position. Second, since
this is by nature a public forum, any ideas, techniques or plans presented
here can only be viewed as being placed in the public domain. Finally, I
believe that EMC already has a feature that uses position encoders to cause
stepper motor generated motion to match commanded position.

Some time ago I proposed a system using DRO input to a CNC program for
stepper motor control of workshop machinery. The idea was considered to have
"No Merit" and not of commercial value. I proposed it as a means of using
lead-screws that have some wear and still achieving an accurate CNC
machining centre. I have continued to develop my thoughts and am close to
achieving the required results. It has taken so long because it was
necessary for me to start from scratch without the benefit of readily
available components.

Is this a case of parallel development or piracy. Don't get me wrong if
this is piracy Dan has every right to produce this application but it would
be nice to have been given a little recognition.

Regards,

Terry.

There are several new items that will soon be available.
1. DESKNC RT using emc in a DOS Real Time version so you can eliminate
all
that unix/linux drugery. It will have a 140 line look ahead and and
supports
all the G code listed in EMC. I am currently testing a copy of it. A
future
version will also have the DRO board used for stepper motor feedback!
It is not ready yet ( will be ready in about a week) so please no email.
2. A low cost optical tachometer based on Hans Wedmeyer's design (with
his
permission). It will be a kit with single or dual IR optical sensors.
Great
for Shoptask like machines or any other variable speed machine such as
Sherline/Maxnc or where the Chinese label plate is all wrong. Should be
available in 3 weeks.
3. A new single axis 5A chopper driver with auto current reduction and
all
winding off 1/4 / 1/2 or 1/2 / full steps
Please no email at this time.
So little time . So many machines to build!

Dan
