I am a lurker also. This list is just what I wanted to see. I have
just completed a 1-1/2" to 12" scale Climax locomotive. I scratch built
ALL of the parts. I made my own patterns, built my own metal melt
furnace, and made my own castings. The only thing I purchased were nuts
and bolts. My objectives was to develop my foundry, machining, and
engineering skills. I am now retired and have time to play. I actually
did more design engineering work on the engine than I did working 30
years for IBM.
My next project is to adapt cnc to my mill drill. My objectives for
this project is to purchase the minimum amount of hardware and software
and to build my own controller board from and existing design if
possible. Also I would like to brush up on my programming shills.
Here are some questions"
1) Should I go with stepper motor drive or servo drives? What is the
advantage of one over the other.
2) Where can I locate designs for stepper motor and/or servo control
boards.
3) In a previous note Jon Croad helped me by identifying two software
programs to get from G codes to stepper motor driver board input.
Is there share ware or freeware that will generate G Codes from a DXF
file?
4) Is the G code "RS-247d" standard online?
