Re: Disassembly of a C11 or C14 EdgeHD
I think we all were wondering what you were up to, if?had you been messing with the lenses in the tube! When I got my Edge back from repairs, I noticed shinny metal threads in the tube where the setscrews had been removed and replaced. Unfortunately the repair didn't solve the problem, so I didn't spend any time looking at it further, and sent it back again. I did notice that there was a huge difference in?how far the?setscrews had been run in, meaning simple centering of the plate in the tube?may NOT be correct for any given scope. They emphasized?to me that this positioning?was a?critical?to?meeting?their?flat field round stars criteria.?What I wonder about, is whether they had to tap out the tube and replace those SS's with the next size larger, because of issues with removing the originals? If they use permanent Loctite on the originals, that's possible. |
Re: Disassembly of a C11 or C14 EdgeHD
Thanks Keith. ?Surely someone has developed a procedure. ?Those EdgeHD correctors aren't going to stay pristine in the interior forever. ? And sooner or later there may be a bit of image shift and we'll want to grease the baffle tube....
And let me repeat, I do NOT want to fuss with the lenses. ?I can't believe I got that wrong in the original post. I do think fussing with the optics in the baffle tube would be a very bad idea. Greg N |
Re: Disassembly of a C11 or C14 EdgeHD
Hi Greg, I've never removed the corrector plate from a C11 Edge, but I have been in ongoing warrantee discussions with Celestron, and have learned a little about the corrector plate from that. The position of the C11 Edge corrector plate has more?care taken?in it's placement than maybe what we are use to with a standard SCT. Not only is its rotational position important, but its centering in the tube?is custom per scope?as well. The little set screws all around the perimeter are for best centering of the plate. Once this is determined at the factory they Loctite the setscrews in place. So you'll have the Locktite to deal with to?release the plate. Obviously you will have to take note of the positions of the setscrews, so you get the plate centered back to it's factory position again. It wouldn't surprise me if there are some tilt/tip adjustments that they do as well, but I don't know. Regards, Keith |

开云体育Why on earth would you want to do that?? If you mess it up, no warranty will help you.? You would not access the lenses from the corrector end anyways. ? Ed Thomas Deep Space Products ? ? From: C14_EdgeHD@... [mailto:C14_EdgeHD@...]

I'm interested in fussing with the lenses in the baffle. ?I want to know whether anyone has figured out, is there any special trick to corrector plate removal and replacement for the EdgeHD C11 or C14 that is different from the standard versions. ? Re: C14 with a Orion HD-MX110
If your G11 is working well, don't bother with the EQ8.? It's not any where near was well built as the G11.? You stand as good a chance imaging with the C14 and?G11 as the EQ8 (i.e., not very good except for planetary). Ed Thomas Deep Space Products www.deepspaceproducts.com |
C14 with a Orion HD-MX110
So is this a good combination within that price range? I currently am using a Losmandy G11 Gemini II Mount with the high torque new motors and have no problems slewing around all over the place with the C14; but maybe in the future might get back into imaging. ? ?All I have on the mount is a Telrad ?finder and a heavy 21mm Ethos with a Maxbright diagnol and having amazing views. Maybe I should just stick with visual. Don Curry |

开云体育Hi Keith, Generally speaking, I run 5-10 minute sub exposures due to light pollution issues. However, when using narrowband filters, I can do 20 minute images with very low losses. Heavy winds are my only real problem but that is rare on clear nights here. Bob ? Boshar.smugmug.com ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? |
Re: Guide scope revisited
Hi Bob How long typically?are your exposures. Do you do any thing special, or made any special mods? 10min is usually my max, but oocasionally with the right environmental conditions I may do 15min. I suspect the latter may be impractical, especially if you are a stickler for round stars? |

" tracking with a guide scope is doable " Yep, your stars are pretty round. " I'm at the mercy of Tennessee skies" We're all at the mercy of weather (visible and invisible).?Hi-res?requires waiting for good seeing and then being able to pounce on it, which is where OAG, etc. become?advantageous. Re: Guide scope (cross post)
for now,?upload?a few?pics to this forum's "Photos" (use the Yahoo web version of the forum to access).? I'm sure you can eventually get Flickr to work.? I was able to do so some time ago?but forgot how. IMHO Flickr has a terrible UI and virtually non-existent documentation. It's the usual phone-style hubris that infects so much software these days, whereby if you already know how then it's not too difficult (though extremely limiting) and if?you don't know?then good luck decoding the?hieroglyphs and hidden features...
