Re: Weight / fork mount

I have a C 14 Edge that I use for video astronomy. Why not just defork the optical tube and put it on a heavy duty mount? ?Lou

?Hello All

I rarely login, so please excuse the lateness of this response. I purchased a 1983 made C14 - orange tube. The OTA mounted on the provided forks with the Right Ascension clock weighs in excess of 100 lbs. Also, according to a very serious astrophotographer - the Celestron standard RA clock is not sufficient for AP. However if you get the BYERS GEAR change, you can use them for AP.

Not quite Denis. My C14 Edge HD is mounted on a Paramount MX+"and I take 6-minute unguided subs without a problem. Here is my latest pic. Image

Steven,
My C14 (old model) is mounted on a Paramount ME. Nothing smaller is adequate for the job.

Alan, first a couple of questions:
Do you have the 11” Edge or SCT?
What mount do you currently have?
Are you using a tripod or pier?
Have you looked at the Celestron website to see What packages are available for the 14”?
How would you use this setup, permanently mounted or for tear down/ setup?

Steven

Yes. My Edge 14 is on an AP1600

Re: Weight / fork mount

I have a Edge 14, and the OTA is an awkward heavy 45 pounds. I’m sure many can manhandle it no problem, but I find it difficult, so I don’t take it on and off except in a blue moon. It does not come in a fork mount, so you would need a GEM heavy enough to handle it.

Weight / fork mount

I have an 11” love to have a 14”. Can I assume that the 14 can come with the fork mount? Also, how heavy would this setup weigh?

Thanks,

alan
