Re: C14 HD

Do you suspect a misalignment?

For the most part, SCTs have only a single degree of freedom for alignment, the tilt-tip of the secondary. ?For classical SCT this is OK because both mirrors are spherical and that single adjustment can collimate well. Although a badly tilted primary can result in a tilted focal plane that cannot be reasonably fixed by most users. But that is rare. ?

However, Edge HD has added optical elements that require a pretty good factory alignment. ?Significant misalignment may not be fully addressed by only adjusting the secondary tilt-tip, in which case it is best to send it back to Celestron, after exhaustively proving the case that it is defective.

My advice is to spend considerable time and effort on secondary collimation. ?If you have a an HD reducer then remove it; there are unfortunately some bad HD reducers out there. ?If the scope performs well without the reducer then it is probably OK.
