Certainly on first impression the cover is vital and if you lose or somehow damage your OEM cover the first instinct is to replace it. ?My gripe with my OEM cover though is that when I stand the scope on gravel it gets a bit dinged/scratched. ?Yes I could take the trouble to stand it on a blanket or something but when breaking down at night these details slip. ?
There is a cheaper solution, however, which I have used on my Newtonian, and which would work with a C14 as well. ?
Cut a large cardboard circle. ?Then cut a cardboard strip, maybe 2 or 3 inches wide, equal to the circumference of the scope. ?
Now, get yourself some nice duct tape (there are many colors) and bend the long strip into a circle. ?Place it around the perimeter of the cardboard circle and secure it as a circular band. ?Now put tons of duct tape to secure the two pieces together and add some thickness and durability.
It makes a nice cover on my 10" Newt. ?Still using OEM cover on the C14 but now that I know this trick how to cover a telescope objective is not much of an issue. ? GN
