As of 2023-24 how many GMD SD40-2s are left on the roster both stored and active ones. The 2023 trackside guide shows 79 GMD SD40-2s left on the roster. Was wondering if there’s been any changes since then

As of October 31, there were still 87 of the original CP units on the roster, but 44 were classified as Tied-Up Awaiting Disposition. Aside from four tied-up for some level of repairs, 39 were rated as OK for service. The oldest of those was CP 5743 (built 1975), the youngest was CP 6069 (built January 1985). The highest numbered unit, CP 6080, was still OK (that's the renumbered 5859, built February 1978).

Tied-Up Awaiting Disposition Means awaiting rebuild? But still on the roster I can see. Last I heard CP still has the capital rebuild project with Progress Rail?

This is a pretty good list of what’s out there

The Diesel Shop list includes OK, TUUL, TUUH, and TUWD units but still omits a lot that were still on the roster as of October 31.

Units missing from the Diesel Shop list that were classed as OK as of October 31 are 5798, 5905, 6000 and 6037.?

The following units are shown as "Out of Service" on the Diesel Shop list but were listed as OK by CP: 5908, 5920, 5946, 5957, 5985, 5989, 6017, 6024, 6042 and 6079.

I sent an update to the DieselShop.
5920 is in service doing yard duties in Windsor ON.

Update: The latest list as of December 31 is much the same, but with a few changes.

5943 is shown as at Red Deer for hydrogen conversion as of December 7 (as reported in another thread).

6000 has the notation: "Should be renumbered 5100".? (It's in the SD40-3 conversion program, as noted in the 2023 Trackside Guide.)

6009 has changed from Tied Up Light Repair to Tied up Waiting Disposal.

6061 has changed from TUWD to Tied Up Serviceable and is identified as an LNG test unit.

I haven’t checked since mid-December, but 6061 was still at McCook, IL where EMD’s home is. McCook (“La Grange”) is where Progress Rail’s engineering department is. It has been there a few years for CNG development.

What went wrong with 6009? Still on the roster unless it gets sent to mayfield?

Thunder Bay killed it?

heard CP SD40-2 5928 was retired sometime in 2023 per a employee who works in Montreal. Don’t know if this one will go to mayfield in the near future. But still listed on the roster?
