Hi Dougs, If VIA cancelled then I assume this would be because?of?the fire south of Lytton, the Kookipi Creek fire as the Canadian is on the CN line.? This fire is on both sides of the river and would impact both rail lines. Near Chase the CP line runs through the East Adams Lake Fire?for about 1 km, above Squilax.? As far as I know the trains are still running.? Even Hwy 1 can be travelled on, but they have closed it to only emergency personnel and evacuees.? Luckily there is a detour through Vernon and Falkland on Hwy 97.? I expect VIA is being more cautious with it's passengers than CP and CN are with their freight.

The Shuswap Sub was closed for 24 hour . Rail traffic is flowing again . There is a “ Work Block “ between mile 80, Notch Hill and Mile 94, Chase where trains are given ‘ Joint Authority with” the on shift Foreman. Yesterday, WB trains were stopped a Salmon Arm here they checked in with the RTC, who checked with the Fire Conditions. If things were clear, The train was highballed Up the North Track and through to Chase. If a issue arose, The Train was stopped , reversed Back to Salmon Arm where the crew would Tie the train down and await a taxi.In short Fire conditions dictate train movement. CP Has two Fire Suppression trains working in the area. One stationed in Revolstoke, one in Kamloops. Each train worked the area for around 12 hours then switch off the other train at returned to the start places
To get a better sense of the traffic flow, You can review the traffic log, of Google sheets , being kept by folks from the VR Revolstoke Chat group . ;

One thing to note. After the BC Gov’t announced The state of Emergency and imposed travel restriction , The The Rocky Mountaineer group, announced, on the Website, that they would be suspending services until further notice.

RMR overnighted in Kamloops.
Those hotel rooms are needed for fire fighters and evacuated people.
