Possible 2023 Wabtec rebuilds?
Has CPKC announced a rebuild program for 2023? I ask because five dead 8500 series GE AC4400CWs were spotted at Nahant Yd.
In Davenport, IA on the Engine House track. Seeing five GEs there is not unusual, but seeing all five from the same number series is. The 8500 series provided the cores for the 8200 series rebuilds so far. John Beaulieu |

Re: New CPKC Livery
I wonder if it will be like a lot of us that still refer to the stadium where the Blue Jays play as SkyDome and still call it the CPR? I know the media will have no problem calling it by an incorrect name. Kris Roenigk Apsley, Ontario On Jul 28, 2023 3:00 a.m., "jngeddes via groups.io" <jngeddes@...> wrote: From Trains Magazine |
New CPKC Livery
From Trains Magazine
I guess change is inevitable, but I still find it hard to warm up to the CPKC name. I wonder how the rear with the black tail will look once the loco has a lot of in-service grime. The overall effect could be pretty dark. On the other hand, a clean and simple design. John Geddes Vancouver |
More CP Hydrogen Locos Coming
The fuel cell supplier for the CP hydrogen locos announced an order for 18 more fuel cell engines. That does not mean 18 more locos -- CP 1001 (that used the SD40-2F as a core) has?eight Ballard 200kW fuel cell engines. CP has already used 20 fuel cell engines in CP 1001, 1002 (GP38H) and 1003 (from an AC4400CW). https://www.ballard.com/about-ballard/newsroom/news-releases/2023/07/27/canadian-pacific-kansas-city-places-order-for-3.6mw-of-ballard-fuel-cells-for-expansion-of-hydrogen-locomotive-program Sean Graham-White |
Re: CPKC 118
Bob is correct that 6644 is the D-Day heritage unit, but it is not army green. It is WW2 RCAF spitfire aircraft camouflage with D-Day identification Stripes.
Per the original CPR announcement on the Military units “CP 6644 wears the camouflage colours applied to Royal Canadian Air Force "Spitfire" fighter planes flown at the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944.” https://www.cpr.ca/en/media/canadian-pacific-honours-canadian-us-military-with-special-locomotives Regards, Stephen Gardiner Toronto, ON |
Re: CPKC 118
This locomotive celebrates D-day and the Canadian army's participation in the landing at Juno beach.? The number 6644 is for June 6, 1944 and the green colour is army green. Bob Grace?? On Tue, Jul 25, 2023 at 8:06?PM solarflow99 <solarflow99@...> wrote:
