Re: Is this your 9114 Xmas train photo ?

If Canadian Pacific lost the Canadian Tire contract, how come I saw some today on 473? Or does the contract expire in a little while?

Sort of ironical in that CP has recently lost thecontract to handle
containers for Canadian Tire. Then too off the back page of a recent issue
of Branchline perhaps?

While talking about nothing in particular with an STLH HQ employee at
Windsor Station, he dropped what to me has to be a real bombshell.
It seems that painting diagrams have been distributed for 'discussion and
evaluation' for a revamped image CPR loco paint scheme -- the colours being
maroon and grey! From his description the scheme is essentially similar to
the one apllied to 3084(that is, the original diesel scheme), but with a
wider grey band. The increase in the grey band is to accomodate stacked
_Canadian Pacific_ lettering, and the beaver emblem.

Something to think about at the start of
the weekend!

2816 & 2860.

Joe Smuin

Hi all:

Well, here's the scoop about 2816 and 2860. This comes from my boss who
is also the BC Rail mechanical department supervisor in charge of the NV
steam shack and who also is overseeing the 2816 project. I also had a
chance to poke around the steam shack today and talk to the boys.

A May rollout ain't gonna happen, fellows! Sorry. In short, the
picture is not very bright.

2860 is sidelined for mechanical reasons and we will not see her in
service this summer. As for 2816, she is a VERY LONG ways from being
ready for the road. The amount of work that is ahead for both 2816 and
2860 is very considerable. I don't think anybody knowledgeable can
really tell us right now when we are going to see either 2816 or 2860
stretching their legs. The sad fact is the only steam we are going to
see (until at least late) this summer is going to be the 3716 and that's
from official sources.

Hello,

The 2816 is slated for a June departure from the BC Rail shop in
North
Vancouver. This is the deadline set by the employees, not the
managment at
either RR. Second, the only reason the steam shop at N.Van has
problems is
because of lack of funding. Al Brodfoot should be regonized for his
hard
work! The engine has gotten alot more done on it than Mr.Smuin has
said. The
have stripped it, cleaned it (harder than one may think) worked on
there own
engines at the same time, rebuilt parts of it, and so on........
But in the end Mr. Smuin is correct, people will work double over time
to
get that thing out by May.

2816 might be ready for runs in May but need a 2nd tender and that
tender
will supposedly be a Chalenger tender from a Binghamton steam
engine.....

Rumours that Rob Ritchie has bought a home in Montreal.....like there
might
be a change at the HELM soon...wonder how his 2816 project will
survive if
he gets boot out ?

I guess shareholders not happy with CP's stock performance ?

From what I'm seeing each work day and from what the boys in the
steam
shack tell me, if the 2816 is ready to run in May, either BC Rail has
a
very impressive connection with the supernatural, or there is about
to
be a program blitz that will dwarf the arms race. So far, the only
magic I've seen at BC Rail is the foreman's unerring ability to show
up
at all the wrong moments. As for a BC Rail blitz, about the closest
I've seen to one of those involved something organized by the United
Way. Unless something has changed very drastically from what I last
heard on pretty good authority, I seriously doubt we are going to see
2816 any time much before summer. (If then.)

First of all, the second locomotive is a SW9, not a NW2. It is ex-PSTR L3
and exx-C&O 5242. It is only a parts engine now. Both 51 and 52 are
currently owned by Ontario Southland Railway. You likely saw them on their
way from Petro Canada in Clarkson to St. Thomas where they both are now in
storage.

You want a copy to find a copy of May 1990 RMC. There's an article there on
the CP Wood Combines.
Depending on the era your interior was either natural mahogany or painted.
Sorry. I don't have painting details.

is #3262, for which I could also use photos.

And as well, the most likely colours found on interior walls?

Re: 9300

The SD90MAC's arrived in Thunder Bay on Monday 27 Mar 00 on 40126. On
Tuesday morning (28 Mar00)I observed both units on the head end of an
eastbound (44027 ?) at around 0700. Units were back to back with CP 9301
leading (these were the sole units on the train.) A trace later in the
day revealed that CP 9300 had left Thunder Bay at 1103 on train 44027,
and that CP 9301 had left heading in the opposite direction on a train of
grain empties (34328). So for some reason the were separated and went
their own ways.

I am trying to identify the famous gentleman in this old photo. Can you help?

The photo comes from the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. They labeled the photo as Vanhorne but I don't believe this truly is Vanhorne. Can anyone positively identify the person? I'll tell you my guess later.
