eXpressway service to Detroit
Message text written by Peter Jobe:
I've heard that the first day of service is Tuesday April 4th, with oneTest trains may be operated, but only into Windsor. The yard tracks under construction are not tied into the mainline yet. This should happen this week though. Asphalt plants don't open in Detroit for another couple of weeks, so no roads will be in to load and unload the trains on. Revenue service will likely be two to three weeks. Gordon Webster Columbus, Ohio, USeh gordon67@... |

Re: 3084
Douglas Cummings
From: gordon67@...In my original post I only asked if the paint colors were correct. Various people have said the grey on the F's is not correct. I do not know if it is or not, I refuse to photograph them (the F's) looking as crappy as they do, and the only way to tell is to compare photos. Of course colors often tend to vary a bit depending upon who provided the paint and the paint code, and all paint fades and changes color over time, witness the CPR's red era with some locos looking more pink than red over time. |

Peter Jobe
Well at least they're trying, better than nothing.
However, 98% accuracy would be much more desirable than 80% but then again, the person paying the seven grand to ride behnd these units, wouldn't know the difference, just as long as it looks good. CP coal trains
Last night I saw a CP coal train with only 2 ACs' headed for Roberts Bank in
Langley. The train had one midtrain and one robot with aluminum Procor hoppers. This is the first time I've seen a coal train with only two units. Is this a result of the directional running down from Kamloops? Chris |

If I'm not mistaken, another inaccuracy of the F unit project is that

shade of grey on the F units is a tad too light. If my personal experience trying to get things done on the railway is any indicator, a lot of these projects like repainting the F units and now the 3084 are carried out by folks that are not particularly knowledgeable about the historical reality and quite frankly, couldn't care less. Thus, the recreations we get today, will be an approximation, in most cases, of the original. Frustrating as that can be for us purists, I guess it's better than nothing. The curious thing about some of these projects that get goofed up, is that there are so many knowledgeable people around, including retired employees and officials that could provide answers and guidance. Yet when the companies come to do these sorts of projects, it is as though they are attempting a difficult technical challenge that nobody has ever done before. Joe Smuin Douglas Cummings wrote:
