the feed-back so far has been all positive(thanks everyone)so i'll
continue posting my trip details when i can..again,let me know if there is anything i can add/omit.... this is my return trip, windsor to london of saturday,march 25. train 2/922-25 ordered for 0630hrs.(windsor to toronto mixed freight,crew change in london) leading loco:cp 5416 sd-40(fmr kcs unit,still painted white) trailing loco's:cp 5604 sd-40,cp 5580 sd-40,cp 9662 mac90 loads:30 empties:51 gross tons:4785 length:5657' *45 mph speed restriction acct. empty bulkhead flats 0630-0645 - cab from hotel to windsor yard 0655 -take power off shop track,put on train....originally we had the 9662 leading with the 5580 trailing.after putting the power on the train we were having difficulty getting air pressure built in the train line due to compressor problems on the 9662(pride of the fleet..go figure..)we took the power off and switched them around so the 5580 was leading..this didn't help as the 5580 couldn't pump enough air by itself.after some time it was decided the 5416 and the 5604 would be added to our consist.(they had just come in on 921).with new power,we were finally on the way and departed at 1018hrs.(ugh!..i thought i'd be at least half-way home by then!) 1023 -cleared from begin/end ctc sign walkerville to east siding switch tilbury 1056 -cleared from tilbury to west switch ringold. 1120 -arrive ringold,clear main track for meet with csx turn(cp 5729 west),923(8507 west),and 747(5595 west) 1236 -cleared from ringold to east switch bothwell.depart ringold. 1256 -cleared from bothwell to east switch glencoe(507 in the siding for us...sorry,didn't get the engine number) 1322 -cleared from glencoe to east switch longwood(535? in the siding for us..soo 6062 west) 1339 -cleared from longwood to east switch lobo 1405 -arrive lobo.(although we were cleared to the east switch,we went in the siding because the rtc had to get another westbound out of london..only makes sense,only one train has to stop...)train was 501(cp 5534 west) 1416 -cleared from lobo to begin/end ctc sign london. 1425 -depart lobo 1450 -arrive london,track release begin/end ctc sign london. 1455 -set-off hamilton block(16 cars)in track 10 1510 -yarded 1530 -miller time! air problems aside,this was a pretty un-eventful trip.i always seem to be in the siding at ringold for three trains!that's ok,it was a nice saturday afternoon and i took the short stroll to a nearby tim horton's.my hogger was able to oblige a couple rail fans at lobo while were waiting for our meet.they got a quick tour of the 9662. i'm first-up on the spareboard right now and will be going to work sometime today..i'll keep you posted. later! highgreen@... |
Time Books
Friends and brothers;
Thank you so much, to those whom have expressed interest in the timebooks. There was a huge response, and I hope I have replied to everyone. Everyone who replied, has received their time card....(I Hope) And many thanks to those of you who sent cheques to cover the postage. That has helped allot. Now, I wonder, what to do with that postage? It was my original idea, to place the amount into a benefit fund, for engineers who are in some sort of trouble...The BLE295 Benevolence Fund at CP Rail. Such a fund has not yet been approved yet by vote. I will push for such an account. In the meantime, I have decided that, I will go forward, with an idea that I think will revolutionise our Division's stance, and do so at my own cost, if not supported by our members. The 2001 Calendar! There will be a photo contest. January, February, and March has already past.. This leaves nine months for photographers to bag some perfect shots! We cannot be realistic, without including some of the best rail photographers in the nation. And the guys on this list are not to be left out. I guarantee, that each photographer, whose pics are included in our calendar, will be the recipients of the 2001 Calendar with no charge, and that all of the entrants pictures will be included in a new Webspace I have Just created and the address is forthcoming. The Pictures will be judged on the first basis of relevance to their location and imediately recocgnisable to members of Division 295, then to their composition and creativity, and to how they would be recieved by our members as pertinent for the month applied. Furthermore, the pictures must be either original, or attributed to the original photographer. Black and White or Colour. The most recent pictures will be considered first. It is best to make a hard copy submission that is larger than 3x5 , but smaller than 8x10. E-mail submissions are at this time, more expensive to publish in the calendar form, and may not be admissible. My address is: J.Paul Bellis 28 Norval St. Toronto M6N-3Z2 The idea is now being submitted to our members..... The cost of a calendar will be more than $30 when we move with this, and any excess, monies will be forwarded to our new benevolence fund in year 2001. I figure that Dec. 08 will be the cut-off date, but please snap away .... Thanks Paul Bellis Div Educator 295 Toronto |

Members;
I am mostly extatic, that Tim Organ is our 300th member. I have worked with Tim for many of his trips, I am absolutely certain, that Tim is one of our best Engineers. In Division 295, he was instrumental to publishing the 'Hogger' newsletter and was in fact, the guy , along with our President, Richard Moffat, to convince myself, that the web was the way to communicate with everyone. Welcome Tim..... From Paul Bellis |

For those that are interested, there is now a photo of CP 3084 in its new
paint on my website. The link is located in my little "what's new" blurb next to the list of new photos. Thanks to Dan Ellis, the photographer, for sending me the photo. Brian D. Switzer - |

Yes it is a great paint scheme. I've always been a fan of the multi-mark, but the maroon and grey sure looks sharp. I'm wondering if maybe this is a change of things to come. I wonder what an AC44 or SD90MAC would look like in these colours.

CP 5600's equipped with UP strobe light
A number of years ago, CP & UP enter into a run through(sp?)
agreement in Western Canada(?). At that time, UP equipped a group of units in the pool with CP ditch lights, and CP equipped a group of units with UP strobe lights. Can anyone confirm the details of this run through agreement, and how many CP units were equipped with the strobe lights. What make and model of strobe was applied. Thanks THO. |
CP 1400's Roof Mounted Mars(?) Light
Looking for information on the make and model of the two lighted
"mars light" that was applied to the roof of CP pass. units. Usually placed in front of the first set of ice breakers, behind DB fan. What units had this light applied? What is the true story behind their application? I have hear of three different reasons for their use. Most pictures that I have referred to, show them applied to units working the Canadian. Thanks |
