Unit train coal haulers

From: "Manny Jacob" <railbus@...
Barring any tests, what is the default coal car for >British Columbia
coal trains
at the time?
The normal car for most unit coal trains is still the CPR style bathtub
coal hopper in the 3 height versions. These cars are usually not sorted
into groups based on the height variations. Depending on the
customer's requirements the cars will be CP or Procor. These are black
with multimark, black without multimark, action red (covered in coal
dust so red is usually hard to pick out), or in the case of the Procor
cars, black with white Procor lettering and dimi data. Usually the
Procor sets operate as one complete train but there are instances where
the odd Procor car is mixed in with the CP sets.

There is at least one unique set of Johnstown aluminum cars with ALMX
reporting marks, leased from the Transisco Railway company. These are
aluminum in colour with yellow rotary ends and black ends on the other
side.

Another Procor set operates with the Johnstown Areoflow cars (no
external ribs are visible) with UNPX reporting marks. These are also
aluminum with yellow rotary ends and black on the other.

I have been noticing that there are a few old style coal cars mixed in
various sets and these cars look like the rebuilt bathtubs that the
Sultran sulfur trains are using. These old cars carry CP reporting
marks without any titles or multimarks and look pretty much the worse
for wear.

Last year there was a set of SOO coal cars looking like the Johnstown
coal porters in BC coal service. These cars where black with white
markings and a white stripe to mark the rotary end. I don't think
these where actually the Johnstown cars.

As well, what is the normal motive power >configuration for these
trains at this
present time?
Normally loaded coal trains operate 2 head end and one mid train slave
AC4400's (west of Golden, B.C.) in the 9500 or 9600 series. Perhaps
someone can correct this information for trains on the Windemere sub
(south of Golden)

Empties operate often without the midtrain slave or have it moved to
the front. Another common summer configuration is for only one AC4400
on the point with a single midtrain slave. I believe this varies
according to the power balance between Roberts bank and the mines.

Thanks
