I'm somewhat surprised no one posted the announcement concerning the above,
full story at . While it was expected, this coincided with CN's bulletin proclaiming it was throwing in the towel with their competing EcoRail service, and are attempting a mini Triple Crown (Roadrailer) service between Montreal-Toronto instead. Quite frankly the CPR is on the right track. Rather than injecting more competition into the truck freight sector, where margins are low as it is, the CPR is providing a valuable service to the trucking industry. At the same time, when in service, can you imagine having up to 240 tractor-trailer units a day off the road between Windsor/Toronto and another 240 between Toronto/Montreal? Whether the pro truck effort by the CPR will translate into new alliances for their Canada-Mexico intermodal service via UP, is another matter. Does anyone have an update to the Mexican service announced on Feb. 25, 1999? Is it operational and what train numbers will it carry into St. Louis? Finally on the South Simcoe matter, while I support the steam movement, the comment made about said operation not having a "heritage diesel" is slightly off base. I consider any CLC product still operational to be significant. );^) ============ Rainer Auer Morinville, AB ============ |
